Yes you read that right! Welcome to @liquorbasketgratiot , a Detroit liquor store that is also an art gallery 🎨🥃💯 Home to Detroit’s newest Black-Owned art gallery that opened this last week, @pushgallerydet is the city’s only art gallery located inside a working liquor store and the only space like it in the country. 🔥 The mind behind the unique combination is Detroit artist Dominick Lemonious, whose family has owned Liquor Basket for about 3 years. @_lemonious was inspired by the creativity at Detroit’s Fine Arts Breakfast Club to make it happen. One of his pieces, titled “Detroit Worldwide,” anchors the location and reflects Detroit’s global influence. 🌍 The mission of Liquor Basket and Push Gallery are to push the culture forward and make art accessible by bringing it to the people, all while highlighting the Detroit artists that need to be on your radar. Their inaugural exhibition “Love, Appreciation & Celebration” by Elonte Davis @slumdog_visionaire made waves across Detroit and beyond, showcasing the narratives and stories of Black Detroiters in an inspiring fusion of art and community that Liquor Basket has become known for. 🎉 Currently on display is the group show “Community First” that is on view through June 30, 2025, featuring work from a wide range of Detroit’s artists and creatives. Whether you’re stopping in for a drink, grabbing food, or soaking up the art, this spot is home to something you can’t experience anywhere else besides Detroit! Check them out at 3643 Gratiot Ave! The gallery is open daily from 10am-2am.📍⏱️ ➡️🌆 Follow @pushgallerydet and @liquorbasketgratiot for upcoming shows, and follow @visitdetroit for more places you need to visit in Detroit.  #VisitDetroit #Detroit #DetroitLove #DetroitProud #DetroitNeverLeft #DetroitArt #BlackOwnedBusiness #DetroitCreatives #DetroitGallery #Whatupdoe #ThingsToDoInDetroit #DetroitCulture #DetroitVSEverybody

Watch me work👩🏾‍💻👩🏾‍💻👩🏾‍💻 It was such a beautiful time building with @pushgallerydet @liquorbasketgratiot last night. I’ve really been leaning into this idea of bringing digital art into unexpected spaces. A liquor store is a thread in the neighborhood’s fabric. For a lot of communities, it’s the light that’s always on. I love that Push Gallery has taken a space like that and stretched it into something intentional and alive. It excites me to contribute to that shift, to help transform what’s familiar into something imaginative and communal. Detroit keeps reminding me that the canvas isn’t separate from the city. It is the city. #digitalart #projectionmapping #africana #detroit @mad_mapper @viewsonic

Black-owned. Family-owned. Community rooted. @_lemonious turned a neighborhood liquor store into a cultural space where art lives next to the shelves and the people come first. @liquorbasketgratiot is more than a store, it’s a statement!! @ColdTakesWithChilly 🧊

“Bad Boys” SOLD 🔴 48x72 inches Acrylic on Canvas with up cycled patchwork. This piece has to be my favorite piece I sold this year. It talks about my journey of my early days when I first moved to Detroit. Hanging out at @liquorbasketgratiot we created community for local creatives to thrive and exist.

Habari Gani? Yesterday’s principle was Ujima, collective work & responsibility, and we truly lived it @pushgallerydet , visions of Blackness at full scale filled the room. So much love in the building. Thank you for sharing this moment with me as we begin a tradition rooted in the principles of Kwanzaa. Next year will be even bigger! More from this beautiful night is on the way. Endless gratitude, HAPPY KWANZAA ❤️💚🖤✨🕯️#detroit #kwanzaa #detroitartist

CAPTURED: Detroit’s Push Gallery Squeezed into the end unit of a plaza off Gratiot and butted up against a Faygo manufacturing plant, Eastside Detroit’s Liquor Basket Gratiot can be easy to miss if you aren’t searching for it. Don’t let its unassuming exterior fool you though - walk inside and you’ll find yourself immersed in a sea of color, comprised of the products traditionally associated with package stores juxtaposed against collected artworks that reflect the diverse skillsets of developing talents within the city. This eclectic combination defines Detroit’s Push Gallery, a space focused on “pushing the culture forward through arts and community focused spirit.” The current exhibition on display, “Watch This,” is dedicated to the celebration of the 5 year anniversary of the liquor store’s existence (Liquor Basket Gratiot opened during the pandemic); in this post I attempted to capture the spirit of the venue. “Watch This” is on display until March 2026.

This Sunday, December 28th from 5PM-8PM, I’ll be hosting an interactive video portrait pop-up at @pushgallerydet in celebration of Day 3 of Kwanzaa: Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility). Step into a moving Kwanzaa-themed projection backdrop, express yourself, dance, pose, pray, vibe… and I’ll film a short cinematic clip of you (solo, with friends, or with family). Your video will be emailed to you after the event so you can share it on social. 📽️ Kwanzaa attire is welcome but not required. This experience is FREE but donations are appreciated + support the gallery and @liquorbasketgratiot Feel free to take selfies, bring your own camera or Polaroid, and tag @pushgallery + @ashantiafricana 🖤❤️💚 We’re coming together in the spirit of Ujima to honor our creativity, culture, and community. Pull up, be present, and bring your light. ✨ 📍 PUSH Gallery, Detroit 🗓 Sunday, December 28 ⏰ 5–8 PM
