Puppeteering is basically wiggling dolls… or, if we’re being generous, playing with slightly oversized action figures. And puppet action scenes - That’s the part I’ve always loved most. This wrestling sequence from the TV show Mr. Meaty is probably my favourite action scene I’ve ever directed. To make it work, I had three versions of the puppets: the regular puppet, a wire armature version for more controlled movement, and a full ragdoll for the heavy impacts and throws. Mixing all three together, can you tell when I used what version of the Puppet? I also have to give some credit to my brother Casey. He was obsessed with classic wrestling, so I spent an absurd amount of time growing up watching the WWE glory days — Hulk Hogan, André the Giant, and Macho Man Randy Savage.
