What is a Punch Marker? What is it for?
It's a fun, super customizable utility tool.
Some makers go for exact mimicry—replicating the tip to look like a real marker, using non-metallic materials to bypass metal detectors. That’s awesome. I love those guys. We need those guys. But that’s just not me. I’m putting the biggest spike that’ll fit under the cap, and I’ll do it in whatever color you like. Because I think it's cool.
For me, these live somewhere between utility and art.
I use mine in a lot of the same situations I’d use a pocket knife—when I don’t want to risk messing up a $300 Benchmade blade. Literally tonight, my wife made a roast chicken for Sunday dinner, and the cranberry sauce was stuck in the can (nothing but the best around here). So I popped a couple holes in the bottom with my Bolt, and it slid right out. 😎 Many Punch Markers are simple—because simple is what the best tools often are. As far as "scribes" go, "The Etch" line of Punch Markers are the only units made with tungsten that can etch glass/porcelain/ect. Everything else is made with Stainless Steel, Brass, or Titanium cores and none of those materials will ever touch glass. That’s the utility side.
And some of them? I spend a lot of fricken time on. I’ll sometimes grind off an entropic finish, have to re-polish and try again three or four times until it hits just right. That’s the art side.
Then, there is the existential aspect about how a “permanent marker” is not really permanent if it can dry out and no longer have purpose. So I make them live forever with a truly permanent existence? I dunno, still working that one out.
So what is a Punch Marker for?
Honestly, I have no idea.
Mostly because I’d never try to tell someone what to do with something they own. And frankly, it’s none of my business. ❤️✌
Finished up the real gold plated Punch Markers for @red_status_customs_ I think you will need to buy a fancy gold plated pew in order to obtain one though. 😎
Shop opens at Noon EST tomorrow. I’ll keep it open as long as I can. 👊
All open orders are now shipped.
Going to take the weekend to make some gold plated bling for my buddy over @red_status_customs_ and the shop will reopen on Monday the 11th @Noon EST.
I do not know what to expect. Might take an hour again or several days to fill up. If I have to close the shop early again, I will post a notice to the upper banner notice with a 10 min warning or something. If you are browsing the shop and see that, you should get to checking out before it gets cut off.
( @jwsleathercreations I need a few more days on yours 😊)
Most orders have now shipped. I thought I was clearing out today but I forgot I missed the last finishing step on some carbon fiber core units. So if you are one of the eight orders that had a carbon fiber unit on it, you will ship out tomorrow. Sorry about that. 👊
*That will be why all the pictures tomorrow will have carbon fiber units. 🤣
Orders are shipping. Orders that only had Pocket Pikes shipped last week but I will need another solid week to get everything else out. I expect most remaining orders to ship this week by the 1st but I will need the weekend to clear everything I am sure.
Therefore, I am looking at at reopening the shop on Mon the 11th.
More on that after the weekend. 👊
**Edit: The yellow rubber grip markers are a discontinued product that a customer sent me to make into Pikes. ;)
A few weeks ago @red_status_customs_ asked for some polished stainless steel cores … they sent them back plated in REAL fricken GOLD! Yellow and Rose Gold. More about this fun commission I am doing for them when I get the units made up in a couple of weeks. 👊
