Swedru-based businessman Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has been released from custody after meeting the bail conditions set by an Accra High Court.
The court granted Abu Trica bail of GHĀ¢30 million with two justified sureties as legal proceedings surrounding his extradition case continue.
Confirming his release, Papa Kofi Essel, a member of Abu Tricaās legal team, told Citi News that his client secured his freedom on Friday, May 15, 2026.
He was released today, May 15. Ghana is advancing in recognising the fundamental human rights of citizens, and the rule of law is working, Mr Essel said.
Abu Trica had remained in police custody since December 2025 after the United States requested his extradition over alleged romance fraud charges.

Fresh details have surfaced after the arrest of Asante Akyem North Member of Parliament, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.
The MP, widely known as OK Frimpong, has publicly addressed the incident for the first time in a video that surfaced online on May 15, 2026.
In the video, Ghanaian media personality and musician Blakk Rasta claims he spoke with the lawmaker and shared part of a conversation he had with the lawmaker during his show.

Sierra Leone has agreed to receive hundreds of West African migrants deported from the United States under a new arrangement with Washington, with Ghanaians expected to be among the first group transferred to the country later this month.
According to Reuters, the first flight carrying āthird-country deporteesā is scheduled to arrive on May 20 with 25 migrants from Ghana, Senegal, Guinea and Nigeria.
Sierra Leoneās Foreign Minister, Timothy Kabba, confirmed that the agreement allows the country to accept up to 300 ECOWAS citizens annually from the United States, with a monthly cap of 25 deportees.
The development marks the latest expansion of the United Statesā third-country deportation programme under President Donald Trumpās administration, which has increasingly relied on African countries to receive migrants who are not nationals of those states.
Under the arrangement, Sierra Leone becomes the latest African nation to cooperate with Washington on migrant removals, joining countries such as Ghana and Equatorial Guinea.
Kabba told Reuters the agreement was part of Sierra Leoneās expanded bilateral relationship with the United States and support for American immigration policy. However, he did not disclose what Sierra Leone would receive in exchange for accepting the deportees.
