DOODLE.
A play to understand the limitations we create for ourselves without really realising it - till the pent up identities are released as doodles, spontaneously .
While weaving and spending so much time with each piece , I started wondering if doodles could actually be Self Portraits, an expression of our subconscious self .
In this series I have experimented with the materiality of paper - pushing its boundaries by incorporating textile techniques like weaving, hand knotting and tapestry.

A recreation of a brush and stroke doodle
using the Indian craft technique of hand knotted carpet weaving. This was woven in collaboration with 2 women weavers in Rajasthan..
Material: up cycled cotton paper, handspun into yarn.

Spriha Chokhani is an explorer of Paper. She has been experimenting with paper waste since 2010. Her studio researches and experiments with local and sustainable practices to create product that engages with the idea of non-traceability.
In 2014 she opened her brand Pulp Factory โ that makes 100 % biodegradable newspaper furniture and Pick from Pulp (2017), which explores Indian textiles using up-cycled paper.
Last year, Spriha showcased her work in collaboration with Ruup & Form at their exhibition 'The Stories We Tell', an exhibition focused on textiles, and the important role they play in every culture.

Today we introduce you to the man behind the making of our Pulp Fabric. .

Narayan (he/him) became a part of Pulpโs family in 2018. He is the 5th generation weaver, hoping to keep handloom alive.
Sometimes by evening, we gather around for a little chit chat sessions, thatโs when he narrated his first encounter with threads- he was 8 when he first started helping his father and by the age of 14, he became a skilled weaver.
