Lakewood Skatepark Construction began in fall 2004 and the winning contractor had never built a skatepark before. Only one actual skatepark builder existed in Ohio at the time (Bluestone in Columbus who lost the bid). We required a test pad be poured and finished to demonstrate the contractors' skill. City Engineers John Kilgore and Bill Corrigan came out to inspect and we brought Vince Frantz from PSG to skate this tiny pad.

The Cleveland premier of Habitat's MOSAIC video took place The Agora in 2003.
We raised money for the Lakewood park and featured the premier of Ryan Poorman's Swiss Grid video as well. Junior & Matt Minch DJ'd and it was probably most attendees first trip to the Agora.

Our First Skate Camp was a fundraiser for Lakewood Skatepark. We worked the school to permit Harding Middle School parking lot (which was already a popular spot). The West Side Skate shop team and other skaters helped with a one day clinic building ramps, teaching and talking to parents about the need for a skatepark in Lakewood.

In 2003 West Side Skateshop and Lakewood Skaters Assoc. hosted a premier of the Black Label Video "BLACKOUT" in Lakewood as a fundraiser for the Lakewood Skatepark. Before youtube you had to attend the premier! More on that later...

The Lakewood Skatepark project was initiated by Mayor Madeline Cain in October 2003.
The initial location was a bit north of the current site and the first designs were created by architects at Brandstetter-Carroll. The first public input meeting was in 2003 and held at Lakewood Park. Look close you might have been there!

Lakewood Skatepark originally opened in Spring 2005. We hoped phase 2 would have happened sooner....
We always knew we needed a bowl to complete the design. Many Mayors and many other skateparks and skate camps and skate competitions later - the Lakewood bowl and more were added along with some shade to boot!
