January 2026 performance of Congo Beloved (Monologue)
Captured at the

Congo Beloved is a reimagining of Congo DRC’s late president Patrice Lumumba’s final letter to his wife before his life was taken. This reimagining acts as a continuation of his powerful leadership efforts for emancipation; This time centring female activists. The performance takes purpose and inspiration from Pauline Opango (Lumumba’s wife,) and contemporary activists
@la_rdcienne_ and Julienne Lusenge.
It’s exciting that there is another step to come with this creative journey. Next month myself and
@domi_nica6 will further develop our performance piece (Rising Mirrors) in preparation for a performance
@richmixlondon as part of
@certainblacks Black Athena festival 2026! We hope to see you there.

At a time when censorship, dictatorship and violence against women are being minimised and increasingly normalised it is our place to say and do something that raises the alarm, resist, calls for action and reflects what “better” might just look like if we try… More than a storytelling of what was or has been, this piece is a wake up call to the power we DO have and CAN use.
