SENTIENT BEINGS: BRIDGES, SEAS, PORTS & HINTERLANDS An exhibition by Sam Colt, on view through May 24, is an incredible journey through gesture, accident, and overactive seeing. “I work with grassello al fresco, layering and carving until something catches and opens into its own logic — toward the genius loci of boats, barns, ruins, mountains. I begin with a loose idea, but the real work is following what shows up through gesture, accident, and a kind of overactive seeing. Forms surface, half-found, half-made, and I follow them — carving or catching an edge in gold — until they hold.” Step into this richly textured and deeply intuitive body of work before it closes. #ptown #provincetown #capecod #artshow

Dina Barker’s new show, Emergence, is incredibly bold, intriguing, and absolutely not to be missed.  On exhibit through May 24. “Wyld Art is more of an emergence than a purposeful creation. Exploring images that hold my attention, and reaching a state of playfulness where thought is abandoned and paint flows, opens the door to creation for me. Whether a specific image appears or not, the piece comes through on its own terms. Viewers will see and feel from their individual perspectives, but hopefully intrigue, questions, and repeated investigation are common threads in the experience. Materials are unlimited. Art is everywhere and can be made with anything.” Step into the color, texture, and curiosity of this remarkable exhibition. #ptown #provincetown #capecod #color

It’s always incredible to see an artist take over the Community Room and completely transform the space into a vibrant, textured world of mixed media and sculpture. Studio Artist Jason Potter has done just that with his new work, OOTHECA. “My work is frequently grounded in normative theories of justice, the upstream determinants of capability, and how bodies — especially queer bodies — navigate systems of power. My experience navigating growth zones allows me to surf the vulnerability of learning new materials and techniques, and helps me maintain inward, outward, and upward curiosity as I work.” Come experience this bold and immersive installation for yourself. #ptown #provincetown #capecod #artshow #community multimedia

We had an incredible night celebrating Studio Artist Kelly Knight and her new work, CALLING HOME, on display at The Commons through Sunday, May 24. In the ancient practice of kulning (cattle calling), Scandinavian herdswomen communicated across miles — with their herds and with each other — using only the power of their voices. The inspiration for this body of work comes from a collection of recordings of women performing traditional kulning in the 1960s. “As I listen, I imagine my own ancestors in Sweden as farmers, and I wonder what wisdom they would share with us about the power of women’s voices.” Heed the call and don’t miss this spectacular show. #ptown #provincetown #capecod #artshow #community multimedia

Portrait Collage Workshop at The Commons Today I lead a mixed media collage class for 9 people. I had all the supplies that I use in my own work set up for each person. I had asked the participants to bring in some elements to cut up for collage in their work. First, I photographed each person and printed out a 4x6 color print and an 8x10 B&W print. I gave everyone carbon copy tracing paper if they wanted to make their photo a drawing in their work. Showed them how all of the elements are used with the paper I provided them to work on. Watercolor Pencils, Acrylic Paint, Gel Pens, Acrylic Markets, Graphite Pencils, and Modge Podge. Everyone had a plastic puddy knife to apply paint to spread and blend, no brushes. We used those tools and our fingers. Small water bottles to activate the paint and ink. Gravity did what gravity does with the control of the artist. It was a 2.5 hour class and it was an absolute delight. I played fun music in the background and interacted with everyone as they worked on their collages. What a fantastic experience and I am so very grateful to have been invited to teach today! Thank you, Lesley, Executive Director of The Commons. Thank you, Cindy, my friend and artistic colleague, to have made this week happen.

Last night’s FREE collage workshop with curator and artist Karen Cappotto was an inspiring celebration of creativity, experimentation, and community. In collaboration with this year’s MISSING TIME collage show curated by Karen Cappotto as part of The Outsiders Festival — artists gathered to explore the layered world of mixed media collage through texture, composition, memory, and visual storytelling. A huge thank you to Karen Cappotto, artist, owner of RSVPtown, and founding board member of The Commons for generously sharing her process, vision, and unique collage techniques that truly push artistic boundaries. Her approach encourages artists to move beyond traditional forms and dive into genre, abstraction, narrative, and unexpected composition in exciting new ways. And thank you to everyone who showed up, created boldly, and made incredible collages together. #ptown #provincetown #capecod #collage #community freeworkshops
