‘I wanted to capture the quiet tenderness of Latino love on any given afternoon. For most Latino couples, this is the kind of love that unfolds not always in grand gestures, but in the warmth of everyday life. The two lovers share a moment of stillness out by the front porch, surrounded by the comfort of home after flowers are exchanged. The afternoon light, textures, backdrop, and calm intimacy reflect how love within Latino households often live in the everyday. This piece serves as homage to the way many of us grew up in POC communities where no matter how hard of a day, family, culture and love all blend together on the same porch, driveway, or yard. ‘

Since 1968, the Hernandez Family has brought timeless memories for generations in the form of photos with Jorge el Burro in the heart of Olvera St. Since then, Richard Hernandez has taken over the family business. They lost their case to stay on the premises since a change in lease and are being evicted. I’ve taken the time to talk to Richard to get know him and his story, and hope to include him in a documentary I’m working on. I believe that if enough people bring awareness to his story and situation, a cultural staple of El Pueblo, and arguably LA and the downtown area, we can help him stay. He wants to keep photographing generations to come. Check out his GoFund and go visit him and take a couple photos!
