New porch and front entrance as part of the full refurbishment and extension of a Victorian terraced house in Walthamstow, London.
Built in Red Grandis - a durable and sustainably grown eucalyptus hardwood - the carefully detailed structure creates a sensory threshold between the public street and the home’s private interior.

Refurbishment and extension of a Victorian terraced house in Walthamstow, London.
Rather than extending directly towards the rear and sacrificing the limited outdoor space, a new side extension optimises the internal layout while preserving the garden’s scale. A large pivot door and adjacent window strengthen the connection to the garden while maintaining internal privacy.

New entrance to a fully refurbished and extended Victorian terraced house in Walthamstow, London.
As a fully open-plan space, the ground floor risked a lack of privacy from the main entrance. To address this, a physical threshold is introduced in the form of a full-height, heavyweight curtain that creates a ‘soft hallway’ between the entrance and the main living areas. In addition to providing visual privacy and shading from the street, the curtain forms an intimate, cocoon-like enclosure around the dining space.
