Well if this ends up being my last time at #PSEWeb, Iām glad I got to share the stage with my girl
@cadiedekelver , one of my first higher-ed friends
@krista.boniface and my Irish #higheredsocial pal
@theirishmants for We Listen and We Donāt Judge: Social Media Unplugged panel
@pseweb last week.
It was also an honour to accept
@sakhmeth proposal to join the planning team this year and step behind the #PSEWeb socials for the year with my student turned master Cadie.
Higher Ed Communications has been passion of mine since I was a Don back at Brock more than twenty years ago. Being part of the #PSEWeb community has given me so much over the years. It gave me friends across Canada, industry respect I wasnāt sure Iād ever find and confidence that replaced the imposter syndrome so many of us often feel.
This conference and community has always inspired me, refreshed my passion and perspective. Itās given me incredible relationships and afforded me numerous opportunities that I may not have found or taken otherwise.
This year the conference was as a bit different for me, because I knew there was a chance it could be my last, as two weeks before the conference I found out the role Iāve been in for the last 10 years will be victim to the ongoing cuts in Canadian colleges. While a bit awkward in moments, being around all of you last week was something I truly needed. I need to remember my value and be reminded why I still love what I do.
Thank you to the entire planning team who welcomed me in this year. Thank you to everyone who Iāve connected with this year and over and the years, it has truly been a pleasure. I hope I will find myself back with you again next summer, but if not, thank you for all of the kindness, wisdom, laughter and fun. I donāt think i could have a found a better professional group to be part of.
Much love,
Sarah
