I do a lot of guest appearances on podcasts, but this one turned into something unexpected: a chance to talk about just about everything I'm obsessed with: humor, democracy, civics, the Constitution, motorcycles, and depression. Give it a listen, and I apologize in advance for the length and my froggy voice.
Me and my new bestie, George Saunders, who must be the kindest literary genius ever. A fine event with the Chicago Humanities Festival. George marveled at the view of the UC Campus, which, he said, growing up in the Chicago burbs, he hardly knew existed. If you don’t know his work, you’re lucky, you get to discover it. He recommends new readers start with his story collection, “Tenth of December.” It has my favorite of his stories, “Escape from Spiderhead.”
Me and Anand Giridharadas, each demonstrating different approaches to having hair.
I met Anand a few years ago via Twitter, and ended up reading his book, “Winners Take All.” His new book. “The Persuaders,” looks to be just as important. All this because I said he looked like the Heat Miser.
You will notice that this is my first post here in a very long time, and even then it’s only about my fourth ever. Never been much of an Insta guy, preferring Twitter. But with the future of Twitter having a musky smell, I might be doing more on here.
I’ve been carrying this thing around with me for forty years. Finally lost it to water damage. I feel terrible that I never did save the Free Trader Beowulf.
