Paint Your Own Pittsburgh Scene: Laser Cut Christmas Ornaments! This workshop will provide an introduction to laser cutting, and a demo for cutting these Pittsburgh Christmas scene ornaments from plywood. Each participant will paint and assemble their own ornament to take with them at the end of the workshop.

Make a quilt to contribute to the Welcome Blanket Project! Protohaven is one of several hosts for this project, in which handcraft makers (knit, sew, quilt, crochet, weave, felt, etc.) are invited to make Welcome Blankets. Each blanket is accompanied by a notecard with stories important to the maker’s own family about immigration/migration/relocation, to create symbolic and practical gifts of welcome for new refugees coming to the United States. The blankets will be collected, catalogued, and displayed at an exhibition at the International Sculpture Center from December to March, before being presented to our newest neighbors as welcome gifts. For this meetup, we’ll provide the supplies, pattern, sewing machines, our enormous cutting table, and any instruction you need to produce a 40”x40” quilt. You provide the handcraft and family stories! You can also bring your own fabric from stash if you like – 1 yard each of 2 colors 45” quilting cotton, plus 1 ¼ yards for backing. We’ll make sure all the quilts make it to the exhibition and on to their community recipients.
