ProPublica’s board must hold management accountable and ensure that journalists and business side staff have a fair contract.
We asked ProPublica’s board to agree to a fair contract, but Chair Paul Sagan replied that they support management, whose latest offer includes weak job security, minimal guardrails around AI and wages that do not keep up with rising costs of living.

Yesterday, our members chanted and marched through @propublica 's NYC office demanding a fair contract now. We delivered a stack of more than 4,000 petition signatures and 300 comments from our supporters to management.
Two weeks ago, we walked out of @propublica offices for a one-day strike to demand a fair contract. We haven’t gotten ANY proposals from management since then. Tell our bosses that you’ll support us if we have to strike again at the link in bio!
Yesterday, our members in New York, D.C., Chicago and across the country walked out to demand a fair contract.
We deserve job security. We deserve to know that AI won’t replace us. And we know that @propublica can and must do better.

We have two important updates to share around our fight to protect our work from AI:
1. We filed an unfair labor practice charge over @propublica management’s unilateral implementation of an AI policy without bargaining with our union.
2. Our parent union @thenewsguild ’s president, Jon Schleuss, sent a letter to ProPublica President Robin Sparkman and the board of directors today, urging them to get on the right side of history.
“I sincerely hope you decide to stand with the journalists and other workers who make ProPublica the investigative powerhouse that it has become,” Jon wrote.
Many of you, like Jon, have expressed your solidarity for our fight for strong contract language on AI that guarantees its use will be responsible and ethical. We have heard you loud and clear.

Today, we wrote to @propublica ’s board of directors informing them that our unit overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike.
We urged them to use their voices to help us reach a reasonable and fair agreement that works for all of us and upholds ProPublica’s values.
