A couple of months ago I received a phone call from an absolute gentleman by the name of John Downer. He had seen some of my work and asked if I would make him a small show case to display a book his father wrote in a Japanese pow camp in 1944. The book in question is called ‘Goodbye Bradman’ by the Author Sidney Downer and dedicated to John. It recalls, from memory, the scores from 49 test matches. Told and read aloud to other prisoners to keep up morale whilst in the camp, the book’s cover is made from a prisoner’s shirt and just under the title has a Japanese permission seal as they were aware of the books writing. It has been in a museum in Lords Cricket Ground since the end of the war and I know John has been rallying for the past 20 years to get the book returned to SA. I drove to Adelaide on Sunday to install the case ready for the Ashes test and met with some of John’s family and I would like to say that it was worth every km. It is now on display in the Bradman Collection room and I feel absolutely honoured to have been a part of the books return. Thank you John for giving me this opportunity. #adelaide #adelaideoval #cricket
I was asked recently to build some timber display cases for the State Library Victoria. The aim was to resemble some antique cases from the 1900’s. I couldn’t be happier with the results! #statelibaryofvictoria #exhition #melbourneexhibition #melbourne
I have had no time to post this year so expect an influx of jobs we have completed to date at Prop Art! Floribunda exhibition at Bunjil Place first up. What a lovely space this was. #bunjilplace #studiopeterking #melbourneexhibition #exhibitionart
Great to be back @shrineofremembrance last week installing their latest exhibition, “Taste of Combat”, a fantastic behind the scenes look at cooking in the military. Had the pleasure recently of building the main centrepiece for the new exhibition “Treaty” @library_vic which has just opened. The sugar gum timber we used was sustainably sourced from a farm in the Yarra Valley and was supplied by the brilliant team @ceresfairwood #melbourne #exhibitions Design @studiopeterking
