Working on Mission: Impossible II (2000) as part of the Models/Art Department team at Fox Studios, Sydney was a major milestone in my career. I contributed to the construction of precision props, large-scale scenic elements, and mechanical set pieces that supported high-octane stunts and visual mechanics. With a production budget of around US$88 million and filming across Australia, Mexico, Spain and the USA, the project demanded technical reliability, creative problem-solving under pressure, and seamless collaboration. It was a true testament to how engineering, artistry and imagination combine to bring spectacle to the screen. Directed by John Woo. Production Design by Thomas E. During Moulin Rouge! (2001) I worked as a Senior Model Maker in the Models Department at Fox Studios, Sydney, one of the most ambitious and visually striking productions I’ve ever been part of. Our team was responsible for designing and building mechanical set pieces, including the rotating and folding mechanisms of the iconic windmills, and the 5-metre chandelier structure that became one of the film’s signature visuals. I also worked on several custom mechanical props and installations: a safe precision syringe prop for Nicole Kidman’s scene, the main stage elevator system in the grand hall, and the assembly of secondary sets within the Fox Studios stages. This project brought together some of the finest craftspeople in the industry; combining design, mechanics, and pure imagination under the direction of Baz Luhrmann and the visionary production design of Catherine Martin. A masterclass in cinematic storytelling, where every illusion depended on the unseen hands behind the camera. Archive Photos from Moulin Rouge!
