YOUNG QUEER AMERICA: The Real Stories and Faces of LGBTQ+ Youth.

Foreword by: @msisisking
Published by: @chroniclebooks
Get to know real queer kids from all over the country—these inspiring stories of LGBTQ+ youth, written in their own words, provide crucial snapshots of what it's really like to grow up trans or queer in America.
This book collects the stories and portraits of seventy-three queer kids and teenagers from fifteen different states.
THESE STORIES ARE VITAL: Across the United States, a wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation is targeting queer and transgender youth. These stories will not only help queer and trans kids everywhere feel seen and connected to one another, they will shine a much-needed light on the challenges and realities of growing up queer in America. From stories of kids surviving on their own after coming out to close-minded families, to examples of supportive parents who encourage their kids to be proud of who they are, these narratives demonstrate that growing up queer or trans in America is difficult and complicated and normal. This book is a powerful reminder that no matter what your path looks like, you deserve love.

Meet Lexy she/her from Alabama.
Lexy was the last photo shoot for the book. After months of traveling I finally was able to end with Lexy in Oregon. Where she had recently moved. Living her new life more comfortable than before as a beautiful queer person.
You can learn more about her story in Young Queer America or listen to our conversation last year in one of our reels below!

Now that Young Queer America is a year old I want to begin sharing all the photos from the book!
To begin meet Riley, he/him from Wyoming.
Riley is transgender and grew up in Wyoming. When we met Riley and his parents we met at his work where he created his own company at the age of 18. We photographed him in his workshop.
Reupholstering furniture and more. We spent the afternoon together photographing him around town and learning more about his life and his family. His parents love him deeply and he and his mother even are working on the city council to make sure all queer and trans people feel included and safe in their community.
You can read Riley’s story in Young Queer America. He is the last youth story in our book. So should be easy to find. 😊🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️❤️

Young Queer America has turned a year old! What an incredible journey it has been. I am overflowing with gratitude for this experience. Crafting this book and collaborating with so many remarkable individuals to bring it to life has been a true blessing.
The opportunity to traverse the country, connecting with diverse queer communities and meeting countless incredible individuals has filled my heart with joy and purpose. Each encounter has reaffirmed my commitment to this work. Witnessing the resilience and vibrancy of the LGBTQ+ community, especially its youth, has been profoundly moving. Their stories, their lives—they are the heartbeat of why I continue on this path.
To all who have supported me along this journey, I am deeply thankful. Your encouragement and belief in my work have meant the world to me.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Maxwell
P.S. A special shoutout to @jsulsenti1205 the delightful surprise animation!

Meet our youngest from YQA, Samuel he/him from Arkansas.
Just because you are young doesn’t mean you aren’t sure about your gender preference or sexuality.
Trust your kids. Listen to them. Support them and show them that you love them.
There are so many queer youth in this country who feel alone or do not feel safe to come out. Just know you have a huge family waiting for you when the time is right.
