Delighted to announce that @project.1961 has been awarded 50k EXPAND funding from @immersivearts_uk to further develop our project Sound and Fury.
We are incredibly honoured to be one of the 142 projects across the UK receiving support this funding round. This grant wil allow us to build upon the work we did with the previous round of EXPERIMENT funding from Immersive Arts UK to take our vision for hybrid, immersive theatre to the next level.
What is Sound and Fury?
Following our work on Grand Theft Hamlet, we are diving back into the digital void to reimagine Shakespeare’s Macbeth within a virtual gaming world.
This isn’t just a play—it’s a collision of live performance and gaming:
⚔️ Hybrid Reality: Performed simultaneously on a physical stage and inside an online game.
🕹️ Audience as Players: Whether in-person or remote via Discord, audiences become active “players” in the drama, shaping scenes through collective “flashmob” actions.
🔕 Radical Accessibility: As a deaf artist-led project, we are embedding BSL, creative captioning, and haptic technology into the very fabric of the art, not just as add-ons, but as expressive storytelling tools.
This project explores what “liveness” truly means when code and flesh perform side-by-side. We are so grateful to Immersive Arts for believing in this “hunch” that theatre and gaming are two sides of the same coin.
Huge thanks to the partners making this possible: Arts Council England, Immersive Arts UK

@samuelrcrane and I did some @project.1961 research today @framelessldn -enjoyed @immersivearts_uk The Whale and had lots of ideas about where we want to go next with our work. Some reflections on immersive work :
-Story is everything otherwise it’s wallpaper
-Allow audiences to play
-Passive is sometimes more immersive than active. -Interactivity can happen in the imagination if you allow space for that to happen
- performers must have a way to relate to the projection as it’s the in the connection between the two that interesting things happen otherwise it’s not hybrid just backdrop
@project.1961 got invited to Belfast to play with some toys at @studio.ulster - and start developing a new project supported by @belfastxrfest Amplify scheme. Had fun meeting the rest of the Amplify cohort and presenting our crazy idea Exit Meatspace with @samuelrcrane and my fellow @bafta breakthrough mate Cara Ellison. Here we are doing the sign for Meat!
Day 1 of the new adventure: Non-Playable-Character. 🎮🎬
We spent the day at the Bristol Digital Future Institute exploring the cutting edge of digital 3D capture. Massive thanks to Dr. Richard Cole and the Bristol Digital Game Lab for the masterclass. Getting to play with this tech has our brains melting in the best way possible. 🤯
Supported by @catapultfilmfund . The journey has begun.
