SNAP recipients are suing the USDA over new food stamp restrictions.
Here’s what’s actually happening.
Five states — Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, Tennessee, and West Virginia — asked the federal government for permission to restrict SNAP benefits from being used on items like:
• Soda
• Candy
• Energy drinks
• Other ultra-processed sugary foods
Now a group of SNAP recipients is suing the USDA, claiming the government exceeded its authority and that the restrictions limit food choice.
Supporters of the policy argue something simple:
If taxpayers are funding the program, the program should prioritize actual nutrition, not junk food that contributes to obesity, diabetes, and long-term healthcare costs.
So the real debate isn’t just about candy.
It’s about whether taxpayer-funded benefits should come with nutrition standards.

The irony here is wild.
A Nashville reporter named Estefany Rodriguez-Florez spent years criticizing ICE and reporting on immigration enforcement.
Then ICE arrested her.
According to federal officials, she entered the U.S. on a tourist visa in 2021 and violated the terms of that visa.
So the very agency she criticized… is now the agency detaining her.

Lately I’ve been getting a lot more pushback from Black people about my political views.
Some respectful. Some not.
But here’s the thing… disagreement doesn’t scare me. Groupthink does.
I’m not interested in performing opinions just because they’re expected of me. I’m interested in saying what I actually believe, even when it’s unpopular.
Black people are not a monolith. We never have been. We argue at the barbershop, at the cookout, at the church table, and online. That’s part of having independent minds.
If my views challenge you, that’s fine. Challenge them back. Bring facts. Bring logic. Bring perspective.
But don’t expect me to be quiet just because my conclusions don’t line up with yours.
Respectful debate builds stronger communities.
Silence builds resentment.
I’ll take the debate.
