We’re thrilled to welcome @jonnygodsmark@production_stuff_ltd back to Light Night Wigan this year with his piece, Tree Geometry 🌳
Tree Geometry explores the connection between the right angles of modern, man-made lighting and the natural roots of trees - reflecting on where we come from and how we connect to the world around us.
The piece begins with the regimented, linear lines of contemporary lighting before gradually returning to the organic, flowing forms of nature and reminding us of the world as it once was.
Jonny also oversees the overall lighting design for Light Night Wigan at Mesnes Park, enhancing its natural beauty and highlighting key architectural features such as the Pavilion Café and The Toe.
📍 Light Night Wigan returns to Mesnes Park from 20th-22nd November.
🎟️ Tickets are now very limited. If you can no longer attend, please cancel through the online ticketing platform so they can return to sale for others. Keep checking the ticketing page, as cancelled tickets may become available. #visitwigan #connectingwigan #lightnightwigan
Experience Treeo by Jason Singh and Jonny Godsmark at Light Night Wigan 2024! 🌲✨
Created especially for Light Night Wigan, “Treeo” is an innovative, three-way collaboration between sound artist @jasonsinghthing , lighting designer @production_stuff_ltd and the Redwood tree situated in Mesnes Park 🌱
“Treeo” explores trees as living sculptures that, through their own internal electrical activity, are able to generate a live music and lighting performance. Making them composer, light show and living artwork.
The live performance is made possible through a process of manipulating the tree’s own electrical activity and converting it into a generative music and lighting experience.
“Treeo” is a development of Jason Singh’s augmented reality installation The Hidden Music of Trees. Live performances from the Tree, Jason Singh and Jonny Godsmark at 6-6.30pm and 7.30-8pm each evening, and the Tree will perform solo at all other times 🌳🎶
Experience “Treeo” for yourself by joining us from the 21st - 23rd November for Light Night Wigan. Free tickets are still available via the link in our bio! 🔗 *Best availability is for slots Thursday after 8.30pm 🌟 #connectingwigan #visitwigan #lightnightwigan
Meet one of our amazing Light Night Wigan 2024 artists, Jonny Godsmark 🌟
Jonny started in the events industry in 1989, at Chichester Festival Theatre. Since then, he’s worked in the West End and Heaven, been on year long tours with Blood Brothers and the Roy Orbison musical, and a show called Taboo. He has designed lighting for festivals, buildings, corporate presentations, motor shows, exhibitions, road shows, theatre, raves and gigs, a shop for Banksy... and now a toe!
“The Toe” is Jonny’s own nod to Wigan heritage and putting Sir Francis Sharp Powell’s famous toe statue in the spotlight once again. Sir Francis Sharp Powell was a famous Wiganer, known for his work as an MP and for giving to charitable causes. This statue was erected in 1910, and local legend states that rubbing the Toe brings good luck.
Jonny has also turned the much loved Pavilion into a work of art, making the historic building into a beacon of light at the centre of Light Night Wigan.
Experience the luck of the toe for yourself at Light Night Wigan 2024! Tickets are available now 🎟️ (link in our bio) ✨ #visitwigan #connectingwigan #lightnightwigan
