ALEX DE BETAK - Chashitsu Hikari SchĂźrli
#NOWNESSpicks: Artist Alexandre de Betak transplants a Japanese ceremonial space to a Swiss barn, exploring light, reflection, and memory within rural architecture.
Installed during Gstaad Art Week in February 2026, designer and visionary creative de Betak explores the intersection of architecture and installation for his work Chashitsu Hikari SchĂźrli.
Unfolding across two levels, mirrors fracture and extend the architecture, while wood and light, shadow and reflection enter a continuous dialogue, dissolving the boundaries between tangible structures and the voidâ .
Drawing a line between Swiss and Japanese architectural traditions, notably the chashitsu, the codified space of the Japanese tea ceremony, and the schĂźrli, a modest Alpine farm shed, de Betak celebrates distinct architectures shaped by ritual, climate, and restraint, abstracting their underlying principles with light as a primary materialâ
