Exciting news from the Energy Team! Join us in congratulating Jacob Erickson on officially stepping into a full-time Engineer-in-Training (EIT) role after an outstanding co-op term. Curious about his journey from co-op to EIT and what projects heâs tackling next? Read the full interview below:
Question: What was the most valuable skill or piece of knowledge you gained during your co-op at Prism, and how do you plan to use it moving forward?
Jacob: I found technical knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems instrumental in my development as an EIT. While I still have much to learn, my understanding of HVAC systems has grown significantly. I can now attend site visits, identify energy systems, and understand building operations in real time. These skills have improved my efficiency and changed how I view the world around me.
Q: Can you share a project you worked on that stood out as particularly challenging or rewarding?
J: I contributed to a program helping local non-profits improve energy efficiency and climate resiliency. I enjoyed conducting site visits, engaging with community members, and learning about their building challenges. Performing engineering analysis, developing recommendations, and seeing projects awarded funding was incredibly rewarding. I feel proud knowing our work makes a positive change in my community.
Q: How does âChanging Systems for a Better Worldâ connect with your time at Prism?
J: I believe the impact of our work is where real change happens, and that project is a great example. When clients implement our recommendations, they save money, reduce emissions, and strengthen their ability to meet climate demands. These improvements make life easier, healthier, and safer, creating capacity for growth and prosperity. Itâs fulfilling to know my work improves lives.
Q: How are you feeling about this new opportunity?
J: I am thrilled to move into a full-time EIT position with the Energy Team. I feel supported by my coworkers and have many opportunities for learning and career development. Honestly, working as an EIT in my hometown of Nelson has been my dream job since high school. I still pinch myself to make sure itâs real!
