PRISM’s Student Ambassador Program (P-SAP) is where LGBTQ+ students come to connect, organize, and lead with pride. It’s a network of GSAs and other LGBTQ+ student groups across South Florida, empowering the next generation of changemakers. P-SAP is about showing up for each other, creating inclusive spaces, sharing tools, and collaborating to make campuses more welcoming. We host events, connect youth leaders, and give you the skills to make an impact. PRISM: Building a Queer Youth Movement PRISM is a youth-led LGBTQ+ nonprofit based in South Florida. PRISM works to expand access to LGBTQ-inclusive education and sexual health resources for youth in South Florida. Our Motto is For every color, for everyone. It's our goal to make sure everyone feels included in their community, regardless of sexuality, gender and race. How do we do this? We provide: - Helpful Resources: We have loads of articles on sexual health, LGBTQ+ history, POC issues, and more! - PRISM Student Ambassador Program: P-SAP is a network of resources and support for high school and college student leaders on the frontlines of LGBTQ+ advocacy. - STI Clinic Search: Find information on free and low-cost STI testing resources through our STI Clinic Search. - Youth Activism: PRISM is dedicated to advocating for queer youth through grassroots action in our community and state. Why is this important? - 1 in 4 teens contract sexually transmitted infections every year. - 41% of LGBTQ+ young people. - Over 500 anti-LGBT bills have been proposed this year– about half of them target transgender people specifically. You might be thinking... how do I get involved? Glad you asked! Sharing our resources helps us reach and empower more youth. You can also volunteer or donate through the link in our bio! #LGBT #LGBTQ #PRISM #PRISMFl #SouthFlorida #Florida #SoFlo #Gay #Queer #NonProfit #NonProfitOrganization #Volunteer #Volunteering #Equality #SexualHealth #Youth #QueerYouth

Representation matters, but not just any representation. The “model minority” myth has long been used to flatten Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, ignoring the diversity, struggles, and realities that exist within them. It erases history, overlooks inequities, and creates pressure to fit into a narrative that doesn’t reflect real lived experiences. That’s why visibility in our schools matters. Students deserve to learn the full story, the good, the bad, and everything in between. Because AAPI communities are not one story, one identity, or one experience. And our education system should reflect that. Writer: Tuyen Nguyen Content: @drcoltonnguyen #PRISMFL #AAPIMonth #ModelMinorityMyth #RepresentationMatters #AAPIAdvocates

Every child deserves the freedom to learn and pursue their dreams in a great public school - regardless of ability, where they live, or what they look like. But now, backed by corrupt politicians and billionaires and under the guise of “school choice”, our public schools are being sold for parts to corporate schools thirsty for land, infrastructure, and expansion without public oversight ❌ In the Miami Times, Antonio “Tony” White, President of United Teachers of Dade, breaks down the illusion of school choice and the truth behind charter co-location. The corporate takeover of our neighborhood schools isn’t about choice, it’s about greed 💰 Want to read the whole article? ➡️ Link in bio

We hear the term “AAPI community” all the time, but what does a community actually look like? The Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community encompasses around 50 distinct ethnic groups speaking 100+ different languages. The answer lies in solidarity. The term “Asian American” was coined by UC Berkeley graduate student activists, Emma Gee and Yiji Ichioka, in 1968. Diverse groups realized that they shared a common thread of being othered in the U.S., and so the AAPI community united to build collective political power to fight against xenophobia, labor exploitation, and racism. So, what does working in solidarity in AAPI look like today? Mono-lingual, Chinese seniors in San Francisco have been organizing for decades since the ‘60s to protect Chinatown from gentrification Native Hawaiian communities showed up for each other with mutual aid to rebuild after the devastating Lahaina fires in August 2023 In the early 2000s, Hmong-American and Southeast Asian groups in Minnesota worked in solidarity with the African American community to successfully demand equitable transit developments that serve low-income neighborhoods. How do we show up for the AAPI community? Start local! The Asian American Federation of Florida (AAFF) is a North Miami based coalition of over 70 community AAPI organizations across South Florida. Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) South Florida, advocates for the social, political, and economic well-being of AAPIs in the region and is part of a national network of over 50 chapters. Florida Asian Services works specifically to increase AAPI voter participation across South Florida. Show up for these organizations, attend their events, amplify their campaigns, and donate if you can, and above all, honor the diversity within the community – solidarity doesn’t mean sameness. Our Organizing Manager, @marvicchabri took public comment at the Miami-Dade School Board meeting to speak on item C-2 the district’s 5-year strategic plan, calling for clearer, more transparent language around how students are actually protected. Because it’s not enough to say the right things. We need to see how those commitments are measured, reported, and upheld. Students deserve real accountability, especially when it comes to safety, mental health, and belonging. Video: @butterfly_fairy_dust #PRISMFL #MDCPS #schoolboardmeeting #queerstudents

We’re excited to spotlight A call to KEEP Black LGBTQ+ Leaders Summit, a space bringing together leaders across Florida to ground us in what’s really happening and where we go from here. Florida has become one of the nation’s most contested frontlines for Black LGBTQ+ communities. This summit brings together voices across policy, healthcare, funding, and community organizing to unpack that reality and build forward with intention. We’re especially proud to see our very own Policy Director @milesdavisfl on the panel helping lead this conversation and represent the work being done right here in our community. 📍 Thursday, June 5, 2026 This is an invite-only event, but you can learn more at 🌐 backtoblaqfl.com

TERFs, or Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminists, are a subsection of the LGBTQ+ community that believe in lesbian and gay rights as a separate political issue than trans rights. They advocate for a gender binary and male-female view of sexual anatomy and gender identity, and have historically supported bills that have restricted or suppressed transgender civil liberties. Despite insistent TERF beliefs of the connection between biological sex and gender/sexuality, there are some trans men that identify as lesbians. In a thinkpiece from Autostraddle, a trans man describes his relationship with the term lesbian. He details that he is “...only attracted to women so it feels wrong to co-opt a word that doesn’t really apply to me anymore but I’m also genuinely a bit heartbroken to give it up.” Though the TERF ideology continues to be perpetuated, diversity in gender and sexuality, including sapphic trans men, continues to exist. Inclusive queerness is essential for the queer community to thrive. Trans men who identify as lesbians should be addressed with the correct preferred pronouns and terminology, and respected for who they are, because mutual respect of identity is beneficial for everyone. ————————————— Writer: Adam Weinstein Designer: Luce Elias Rochwerger ————————————— #LGBTQ #PRISM #PRISMFL #SouthFlorida #Florida #SoFlo #TERF #LesbianVisibilityWeek
