It’s been 10 years since “When Marnie Was There” was released into the world. Last night I watched the film in the theater during @ghiblifest for the first time in a decade. So many memories and feelings came up for me and by the end I was just crying. Not only was it a dream come true project, but the people I got to work with and meet will forever be in my heart. It was a magical summer.
1. I cringe when I see this photo because I couldn’t look dorkier standing next to my hero Hayao Miyazaki, who sat with me that day and let me ask him anything I wanted. 🥹

About last week…. 🥹🥹🥹 I nearly cried during Dream, thinking about all the life altering experience had and memories made at @thehotelcafe . This room will forever hold a tender place in my heart. Thank you SO much to everyone who came out, especially those that have been with me since my first forays at the Hotel. The closer I get to this Friday’s show at @thehotelcafe the more I realize how special this room was for me, not just for my career, but for my life. The people I’ve met here, the moments shared. Honestly, any space where people come together to experience music together holds real magic, in my opinion. And on top of that, I get to share the night with my dear friend Bobby, aka @bigphony . 🥹 I’m such a fan of his!!

Since her 2008 debut LP, A Good Day, for Blue Note Records, and its heart-resonant breakout hit, “Dream,” Priscilla Ahn’s lyrical, melodic worlds of innocence and melancholy have had a delicate, but profound impact. Priscilla is a regular presence in film and TV soundtracks with her own original songs, including the theme song for the Oscar nominated Studio Ghibli film, “When Marnie Was There”, as well as lending her vocals to films such as Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim”, and Damien Chazelle’s Oscar-winning “La La Land”.
At this show, Priscilla will be showcasing her upcoming covers album release “New Moon”.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it’s my last show at the original Hotel Cafe before they close and relocate. 🥺 I just realized, I started playing here 20 years ago!!! It was such a big deal for me at the time to get a show here, and it quickly became a 2nd home. This place is so special and dear to me. I hope you’ll join me for this one. Ok…. I just have to take a moment here and pinch myself a thousand more times…. This was such a crazy dream come-true-for-me moment. When I was in 7th grade, I would turn MTV on every morning while I was getting ready for school and Semisonic’s “Closing Time” music video would be playing on there constantly, and I was obsessed — with the song, with the split screen video…. And at the end of every day I would stand in the shower singing this song at the top of my lungs (not unlike how I am in this video 😅🥴) and I’d daydream of who might ask me to the school dance— haha! 🥰 10 years later I got to meet Dan Wilson on @thehotelcafe tour, and years after that we sat in my living room and wrote “Waiting” together, and years later he’s singing at a benefit concert for my kids’ school. This feels like a peak, beautiful manifestation moment for me…. Unreal. And seriously, what a privilege to know such a kind, generous and talented songwriting master. 🙌🏽 From the bottom of my artist child’s heart, thank you @danwilsonmusic 💖
