Following on the movie theme , Toshiro Mifune in Throne of Blood.
I designed this using my Mifune puppet (see earlier post) as a composition aid, something I taught at @worcesterillustration a few weeks back.
Now I cannot recommend this film enough, it is Kurosawa’s telling of Macbeth, it is brilliant and Mifune actually had real arrows shot at him!
I have been obsessed dog late with Japanese cinema, mainly because it’s excellent and there’s so many greats on the @britishfilminstitute , but here are some suggestions:
Yojimbo (followed by Sanjuro which are the inspiration for Fistful of dollars and the character of the man with no name)
Onibaba
Kwaidan (particularly the bit Hoichi the earless)
I live in fear
Rashomon (which has been done to death since , the last duel is latest incarnation)
Ikuru
Red Beard (I love red beard so much)
House (but because it is bonkers)

John Wick just for fun.
I must admit it was inspired after seeing my friend @richeybeckett bumped into the Reeves while he’s galavanting in sunny San Fran.
Gotta give it to Keanu Reeves he’s defined 2 separate generations of action movie and John Wick 1 and 4 I love. They are bonkers , but considering John Wick 4 is 3 hours ! I really enjoyed it . But that’s me , @richeybeckett I look forward to hearing your San Fran tales when you get back boyo.
Ps although I am a fan of John Wick , Point Break for me is where it’s at.

I’m working on a few things so haven’t had much chance to post on the ole socials so here is a few snaps of my sketchbook.
I’ve only really rediscovered sketchbooking the last few months and I forgot how much I love it AND how much mad shit spits out of your head and on to a page. I recommend it.
I also recommend ‘Night of the Hunter’ which a few pages are dedicated to , a weirdly terrifying film with Robert Mitchum , it’s not gory, it’s not particularly jumpy but damn is it creepy and Robert Mitchum as a charming murderous vicar is amazing.
I also recommend not drinking coffee with fingers in it.

It is my shopkeeper birthday today! @printsofhay is 1 year old! It’s gone quick and I must say I’ve learned a lot, it’s amazing how the shop changes and adapts organically with time, Images are of the shop how it is and how it was.
