Essential Advice for Artists/ Photographers/ Creatives Did you know your beautiful images quietly degrade each time you save them as JPEGs? It's true - repeatedly saving them actually damages them in the process! Kevin just told me! Here's what's happening: Every time you save a JPEG, the compression algorithm runs again, throwing away more data and creating those annoying blocky artifacts. The pros call this "generation loss" - and it could be silently damaging your portfolio work. The impact on printing is particularly brutal. Those subtle compression artifacts might look minor on screen but become painfully obvious in large format prints. Kevin showed me examples where repeatedly saved JPEGs had visible banding, colour shifts, and lost fine detail - exactly the elements that make your work stand out to clients. You may have settings to save automatically everytime you reopen them, so go careful! To protect your creative assets: Keep your original files untouched - always work from copies. Use lossless formats like PNG or TIFF throughout your editing process. Only convert to JPEG as the final step for sharing or web display. When you must use JPEGs, go for higher quality settings. Think about cloud storage for originals to prevent accidental overwrites. This simple workflow change can dramatically preserve the quality of your digital creations.
