Some tracks don’t need fixing. They just need a bit more room. South African composer and keyboard wizard Don Laka has been quietly sitting in DJ bags for years, especially with people who like their synth music warm, slightly mysterious, and impossible to date properly. Somewhere between jazz funk, township pulse and studio electronics, but really just its own thing. Stages was an obvious candidate for extension. Prins Thomas what he does best here: opens the arrangement, lets the synth lines breathe, stretches the groove until it starts floating a little higher off the ground. Nothing forced, nothing added for the sake of it. Just more of a very good thing. I Wanna Be Myself gets a gentle nudge from Gerd Janson. The idea was simple: keep the personality, and give DJs a version that lands naturally in a modern set without losing the original charm. It’s still the same track, just standing a bit straighter. And because the source matters, the original version of “Stages” is here as well. Always good to remember where the magic started. Three versions, no drama. RIP @jarlebrathen Just realized we've been working on and off for close to 17 years, with your solo releases and together with @mariusvareid as Ytre Rymden Dansskola. You would always take the time to meet up or show up unexpected to my gigs when I was in Berlin, and even if I was the dull labelboss sometimes turning down your musical ideas, you didn't let that affect our friendship, always spreading positivity with that ever present smile. Vår nye venn og Lyse Netter-asosierte, Eli Senga, skriver: Foruten sin lange fartstid som en av Norges mest begavede produsenter av elektronika, så har Prins Thomas vært et skue bak miksebordet: en maestro av diskotakten og dens omslag. Når han spiller all-night på Jaeger, er de tidligste delene, mens bartenderne fikser sortimentet og gjestene knapt har redd inn, en gyllen periode: da spilles en mer lun musikk: med tempoene sakket, brer sjelfull varme om seg og ambiansen av en middelhavspiazza overtar en liten bakgård på Grensen. Dette lende har han de siste årene utforsket, med ettertrykkelig inspirasjon fra hans makker og venninne Isoebel. Isoebel er godt kjent rundt klubbscenen, og har i mange år frekventert, jobbet og spilt i diverse klubber landet rundt. Spesielt en gigantisk delt spilleliste dem i mellom, med et par års fartstid, ble til Double Trouble: regelmessige kvelder på Jaeger, der de presenterte deres seleksjoner. En kveld som puster med magen, sakker ned og planter ned groove; der resten av byen higer etter det kjappe og intense. Dette musikalske forholdet dem i mellom, i motstrøms vigør, har vært en stor pådriver for en særs sterk og mangfoldig kreativ oppblomstring, hos begge artistene. Dette samarbeidet, fundert i det midtempo og duvende (tenk 80s boogie, proto-house, cool pop etc) var så spirende at de tok steget fra miksebordet til studio. Double Trouble, inkarnerte seg i form av artist-duoen, Prins Thomas & Isoebel. Musikken deres er et stykke unna hans mange diskomikser. Det høres faktisk, i en både forlegen og sexy natur: pop-nært, nonchalant og velour-kledet. Med låter som blant annet et cover av The Cranberries «Linger». Det er rett og slett jævlig koselig musikk. This Friday, 17th of april(from 22-03:15) I'll be back at BLÅ for the first time in more than 7 years. A club I have a long history with, and definitely the one that shaped me the most being a up and coming local dj new on the scene at the time.. Residences, the birth of Tamburin then Full Pupp, the chance to book some of my favorite bands and dj's... looking very much forward to be back.
