전명은은 자신의 사진을 ‘통과하는 이미지’라 말한다. 실제로 고정된 이미지에는 운동감이 서려있고, 결정적 순간보다는 이행의 국면에 위치한다. 이번 <passage>에서 작가는 특정 인물과 그의 초상에 대한 고민에서 출발한다. 하지만, 그의 인물 사진은 한 개인을 규정하는 징표로 귀결되지 않는다. 그/그녀가 누구인지보다 ‘어떻게 존재하는지’가 선행한다. 얼굴은 사물의 표정처럼 읽히고, 풍경에 내려앉은 온도처럼 감지되며, 공간을 채우는 대기처럼 주변으로 번져 나가며, 단선적인 서사나 정체성으로 환원되지 않는다. 그런 면에서 초상을 대하는 전명은의 시선은 사물이 들어선 정물이자, 풍경이며, 공간 그 자체와도 닮아있다.
Eun Chun describes her photographs as ”images passing through.“ Indeed, a sense of motion lingers within each fixed image, and they are located not at the decisive moment but at the moment of transition. In this exhibition 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙜𝙚, the artist begins with a contemplation of a particular person and their portrait. Yet her portraits do not resolve into markers that define an individual. Not 𝘸𝘩𝘰 they are, but 𝘩𝘰𝘸 they exist comes first. A face is read like the expression of an object, perceived like the temperature that has settled over a landscape, and spreads outward like the atmosphere filling a space — never reduced to a linear narrative or a fixed identity. In this sense, Eun Chun‘s gaze toward portraiture resembles a still life in which objects have taken their place, a landscape, and the space itself.

#ListeGalleries Primary Practice, Seoul @primary_practice presents RohwaJeong @rohwajeong
At Liste 2026, Primary Practice will present the work of RohwaJeong, one of Korea’s important conceptual artists, alongside that of Whistle’s young painter Dongho Kang. RohwaJeong is an artist duo consisting of Noh Yunhee and Jeong Hyunseok. By repeatedly engaging in processes of mutual persuasion, internal checks, and critique, the two artists secure an objective point of view and thereby sustain the fictional identity and singularity of “RohwaJeong.” The key notion of “relationship,” grounded in this very structure of their formation, now extends to the many boundary surfaces that undergird our contemporary condition.
In this presentation, it interweaves closely with Kang’s works, forming relations that traverse reproduced images and what lies beyond them. Kang’s new paintings, which fragment narrative and reassemble it into filmic scenes in order to experiment with a painterly syntax, enter into a chain reaction with RohwaJeong’s works, which observe everyday phenomena as “events” and draw viewers into processes of interpretation and misreading. Together they elicit a more three-dimensional and stratified mode of viewing and resonance, and further, an affective sensibility.
