đž Today is an emotional but celebratory day! Today marks 2 years in my sobriety journey! đ„č
Some people know and some people donât that 2 years ago today my sobriety began. I was in one of the darkest places in my life and felt like I was in a hole that I would never get out of. Physically, mentally and spiritually, I shut down and was going through the motions of life without living. After being hospitalized in January of 2023, change was imminent but was I optimisticâŠno.
Then the miracle happened! I found strength I didnât know I had through the support and love of the people around me. My family, my new found sober community, my best friends and my ballet family rallied around me in ways I wasnât prepared for. And to them I say, Thank You đ„č Thatâs why I am here today! THROUGH LOVE â„ïž
These past 2 years have been hard, long and Iâve never known the need for patience more in my life. But they have been the best 2 years of my life! I have joy again that I will never take for granted. I have a deeper love for the people in my life and dreams have come true all over the place. Itâs going to still be hard but I wouldnât trade my life for anything!
I share this because the world is scary and seems hopeless a lot of the time. And dancers especially can be held to a sort of perfectionist standard. But we are human, we are artists and we feel deeply. If you are struggling with substance abuse and/or mental health, let this be an encouragement to reach out to someone you trust or a hotline and share how you are feeling. My DMâs are always open as well if you need references or just someone to talk to. Or if you know someone that you think could be going through a tough time, let this also be an encouragement to check in on those people or just be ready to be there for them.
Support and love changed my life. Know that if you feel like you are alone, you arenât! â„ïž
23-24 PREVIEW // Soloist Preston Chamblee and former Principal Dancer Teresa Reichlen in Ulysses Doveâs 1994 singularly breathtaking Red Angels.
âRed Angels is really about [Ulyssesâ] life at the onset of AIDS. So he wanted Red Angels to be a statement on being diagnosed with something that someone says is a death sentence, and still realizing in himself: âI still have a lot to say,ââ said Alfred Dove, brother of the late choreographer, in a 2019 interview with @balletmet . Alfred also serves as director and administrator of Ulyssesâ balletic estate.
Red Angels returns to the main stage this coming spring on the Contemporary Choreography I program. Single tickets are now available for all programs at the #linkinbio.

A Gala to remember âšâšâšâšâš
I had the immense honor of wearing an original design by @i_will_always_love_my_mom for the @nycballet Fall Fashion Gala.
This was his ode to ballet by constructing the entire look out of recycled dance costume pieces! I have never felt more confident, handsome, beautiful and sexy before! Thank you so much Dylan for this gift đđŸ
And to get to walk the carpet with the handsome @josephlucius by my side was the cherry on top â„ïž

âFinding my own courage, finding my own voice, and speaking up for what is true and what is right and what I think is just has been really wonderful. I think without New York City Ballet, I donât know if I would have found that inner strength and that inner voice. I think the dancers have really stepped up in the culture that weâre in and have found an inner strength. I think the world is starting to listen, and thatâs really encouraging.ââ
