The crucifixion was ugly, brutal, painful. Unlike how it is often depicted, Jesus was ruthlessly beaten, struck down, and pierced in a manner that even the Romans were disgusted and distraught by. The worst pain He felt, however, was for three hours in absolute separation from God the Father, experiencing death and separation at the fullest extent.
His heart for us was to endure. To feel the pain of separation so that we never have to.
Before he breathed his last, Jesus uttered, "τετέλεσται".
Tetelstai: it is finished, paid in full.
This Easter season it's important that we remember WHO he is, and WHAT he did for us. The heart of Jesus for us is something we can never truly comprehend. Your pain, sin, and suffering, like mine, is paid in full.
What a blessing that is.
