episode 01
where visual storytelling meets presence
—
captions like this are a little daunting because ideally the video says what I can’t fully explain yet.
but that’s part of this series too.
about learning not to see my shortcomings as pitfalls, but as part of what gives my work its honesty, tone, and character.
it’s about creating before everything makes perfect sense, and trusting that the meaning will meet me there.
so, here are my few words.
the rest is in the video.
what part of your process are you learning not to judge so harshly?
thank you for watching 🌹
says @charleeblk so here I am, finding out. I’m a self-taught shooter who wants to be a lens for the unseen and tell provoking stories. one day I’ll celebrate what I create with less abandon. for now my call is to lean into the process. to honor my resiliency in always figuring it out. as the work keeps getting better, the product will align more closely with my taste. but here and now is all that matters. if you know what it’s like to be seen trying, join me in a round of applause….”coming to the stage!… embarrassment!!!” It will break you down and set you free! don’t I know it.

came to train my body and ended up rewiring my whole relationship with discipline, pain, presence, and self-trust.
….the body is just the byproduct.
I’m realistic about what I need. I know support helps me show up when I’m low. That’s why I have a trainer @coachlegss and I’m really grateful for that.
But showing up looks different for everybody. A walk counts. Sitting in the park counts. A YouTube workout counts…
Starting where you are is not less valuable than where you’re trying to go.

episode 04
happy mother’s day and happy accidents
I have so many stories to share about my adventure in motherhood. it’s been an incredible ride, full of plot twists and learning.
I’m learning to bring all of me into all that I do, because all experience is valuable. motherhood has heightened my sensitivity and made having a creative practice feel necessary.
I want my kids to see me willing to get it wrong and still go for what’s for me.
what’s changed you in ways you didn’t expect, but ended up becoming part of who you are?

episode 03
don’t piss me off
embracing uncertainty with deep curiosity and being willing to stand in I don’t know is one of the highest forms of intelligence.
through trial and error, I’ve learned that real wisdom is being able to stay open. and not collapsing in the face of mystery.
doing these videos is proof to my nervous system that we can be okay without having it all together.
what are you being invited to move toward with more curiosity?

episode 02
a soft return
I come from a loving home, but I also come from a layered story. one shaped by generations of faith, longing, survival, and events that culminated in my birth and continue with me.
I come from pots of callaloo and crawfish étouffée. my father was born in cunupia, trinidad. my mother was born in ville platte, louisiana. they met at a revival church in baytown, texas.
both of my parents would later become pastors and had a way of delivering messages that made everything feel cosmic in scale. so from very early on, much of my life was framed through a God lens where everything had eternal implications.
my birth was prophesied to my parents. when my mother’s life was threatened during pregnancy, the doctors had to give her life saving medication, which they told her would result in her giving birth to a stillborn child. they prayed heavily that I would be protected.
when I was born, there were three knots in my cord. all my parents remember is a flurry of chaos from the medical staff, code blue, and alarms going off.
I was named Preshus because I was seen as a miracle. and that is beautiful. but the way I internalized that early on, especially in such a religious environment, set the stage for years of disembodiment.
and when I say the camera became a way back, I mean that.
have you ever had to untangle who you are from what was placed on you?

I spent a long time building my life around survival. choosing to rebuild my life around creating full time is my way of choosing freedom, softness, and a life that actually feels like mine.
