Help me mic up drums!
This is my go to starting point to get a punchy, modern sound. The @audixmics D6 gives me great attack and thick low end on the kick. I have a @shure Beta 58 for classic snare sound, with tighter pickup pattern to reduce cymbal bleed (considering swapping Beta 56A for the right angle boost in upper mids). My @sennheiser MD421 Kompakts deliver a recognizable tom sound with a good balance. The @akgaudio C1000s give me a smooth overall image of the kit that play nice with close mics. My @warmaudio WA-87 R2 acts as a natural room mic when I set it to Omnidirectional.
From here I will adjust, swap, add, & remove mics as needed to suit the genre of each project accordingly. Some of my first moves are adding a condenser mic under snare, an omnidirectional mic between the kick and snare, outer kick mic, & additional room mics.
