It’s August and 2025 has spoken. Another gauntlet thrown down by Mother Nature. Another battle with the land, the rock, the cold, the wet, and the wildlife (male black widow on harvest bin - pic #4)
We may look beat up but you should see the other guy. Despite all of the challenges we’ve got wines that have begun fermentation beautifully and though our yield may be lower than we had hoped, the wine doesnt care…and neither do we. We’re capturing time and place and looking forward to sharing it with you in the form of Texas Hill Country Rosé
Keep on keepin on brothers & sisters ✌️
We are incredibly excited to participate in tomorrow’s Texas wine showcase at the Austin Winery. They are truly one of our industry leaders and have created an annual one-of-a-kind event that will go down in the history books when they write the story of Texas wine.
Buying a ticket gets you 12 personal tastings with the producers of some of the most thoughtful, interesting, and delicious wines our state has to offer.
We can’t wait to see you all there.

It’s cover crop season- especially if you’re planning a new site for next year!
Here’s how we handled this beautiful fallow field with great existing soil structure. Just enough of a shallow rip to break up some preexisting compaction and allow us to rake in our clover seed.
Mother Nature did the rest.

Of all the many reasons why we choose to hand-harvest our fruit, cluster selection was at the top of our list this year
Sporadic, uneven ripening seems to be the theme of this vintage. And that’s ok- we roll with the punches.
Half of these Mourvedre clusters were ready to be picked- half weren’t. So we decided to pick the clusters that had reached their full potential and come back later for the rest when they’re ready.
Twice the amount of work, but we think the extra effort will show up in the bottle.
Not your typical harvest, but there’s really no such thing as “typical” in the Hill Country. We just try to make the best wine we can from every site we farm, every year.
BRING IT ON MOTHER NATURE!!! WE’LL TAKE EVERYTHING YOU GOT

Weeds- they get a bad rap. Not all weeds are bad! (Feel free to slide in the DM’s if you want to talk about the benefits of well-maintained weeds under your vines)
But in this case, we’re trying to see how we can suppress weed growth through non-chemical means in order to reduce competition in the vine’s root zone.
Here’s a look at the mulch trial we’re running this year to determine cedar’s efficacy at reducing weed pressure under mature vines.
Looking good so far!

Local Customs is Grower Rosé. We believe rosé is the ideal vehicle for capturing and communicating the viticultural identity of the Texas Hill Country; in our hot growing-region, harvest comes early. Maturation begins early as well and gives us everything our style needs early in the year. These wines are not pink on accident. They are not extra juice, they are not the leftovers, and they are not an afterthought like so many rosés. Pruning, composting, shoot-thinning, harvesting - every decision has been made with one purpose in mind all year: making world-class rosé. #texaswine #texashillcountry #winemaker #rosé #wine #vineyard
Huge thanks to @thevioletcrown_atx for hosting us last night. Being the “new kid in class” is scary but it’s a little easier when you’ve got great friends supporting you. We got a chance to do some table service with customers and have some great conversations. Folks were out celebrating birthdays, on dates, hanging out with friends, and we are so lucky to have had the chance to take part in those moments - hopefully adding a little value in our own way.

If we missed you, keep an eye on our timeline and stories; we want to do more events like this and be face to face with folks, introducing our wine, our brand, and ourselves. See you around!
