On Wednesday, December 4th from 11am-2pm all Pratt students, staff, and faculty are invited to participate in collaborative Grief Weaving in the Student Union, a wheelchair accessible space, with visiting artist Arthur Kay (they/them). This practice uses the simple repetitive motions of hand weaving as a method for grounding and processing big feelings. Participants are welcome to write their fears, hopes, and visions for the future on strips of fabric, then weave them into a collaborative textile. If you have any accessibility requests or questions, please email Olivia Witsaman ([email protected])
Arthur Kay (they/them) is a Brooklyn-based artist who also works in the Foundation Department at Pratt. Through collage, sculpture, walking, and more, their work employs repetitive physical movements that allow them to access and process their emotions. They believe that zooming in & contextualizing oneโs own body in space and time allows one to understand their place in the world more deeply. Their work is grounded in principles of disability justice and community care.
RSVP at the link in @prattosi bio. RSVP is encouraged, but dropping in to the program is welcome!
