Love is being a 3Arts artist ✨💞 Congratulations to all of this year’s awardees — your brilliance lights up the room. I’m grateful to be nominated and even more grateful to be in community with artists who care this deeply. Rachel, thank you for your unconditional love and your boundless imagination. I adore you 🥹🧜🏼‍♀️ For my collectors and future collectors — I’ll be opening my studio this mid-December for a special Studio Grand Opening + Holiday Art Sale. A warm, intimate chance to collect new work and a few rare pieces. More soon. ✨ #SupportLivingArtists #AccessLove

Pen and ink drawing I made for my sweet mermaid friend Genevieve Ramos when we lived together during the beginning of the pandemic. Two mermaids, our tails forming a heart as we reached and were pulled in all directions, but mostly apart. Covid filling the center of the image, keeping us apart as we swam through an ocean of tangled DNA and Covid. The ladder of DNA twists, unites and separates.

Puppet by Rachel Singer. Black and white pen and in drawing turning into a 6 foot 2D wasp puppet. A mother becomes a wasp. Life changes from childhood dreams, being forced to reconcile with the complexities of life. I'm so grateful to have worked on Don Chipotle making puppets. Seeing my pen and ink drawings on a large scale expanded how I thought my art could live in the world. What a loving and skilled creative team! Cast, crew...everyone! Juan Villa, thank you for sharing your family stories with me and holding space for Taylor Bibat and I to collaborate with you. Jo Cattell, I'm so grateful I got to learn from you and watch you manage to direct with so many complicatd moving parts! Photo by Joel Maisonet.

Please come see the work-in-progress showing I am creating with Genevieve Ramos and a whole team of friends for my 3Arts/Bodies of Work Artist-in-residence public event. December 8th, 2024 3:30-5:30 Tickets are free, but required, very limited space! Once you fill out the form, you will be notified to inform you if there are still seats available. https://forms.gle/NhejMDbc9MezrFMB8 We will have a discussion after the show to talk about some of the themes of isolation, connection and disability culture in our lives and in yours. We are hoping to get feedback about the show to continue developing this work.. Step inside a place where memory meets imagination!! Show description: Please join us for Eve of a Great Remembering, a work in progress collaboration between artists Rachel Singer, Genevieve Ramos and company. Through dance, shadow, and tabletop puppetry we travel in place exploring isolation, connection, greed and abundance. In the place where memory meets imagination, concealed worlds begin to take form, washing away the illusion of separation. Together we reach into the barely tangible, to reveal hidden stories of ancestors, and hope in the past, present and future. We ask the question: How do our interconnected stories through time help us to remember what has been forgotten? Performers and folks helping to create the show include, but are not limited to: Rachel Singer, Genevieve Ramos Art, Sojourner Zenobia Wright, Richie Schiraldi, Tom Lee, Rebecca Zisook, Bec McNamara, Dorian Taylor, Lindsey Ball, Adam McAleavey and Josh Sobel.

With gratitude I am announcing that I am a 3Arts/Bodies of Work artist-in-residence for my work in disability and theater! Please register for my free puppetry and disability culture workshop at: go.uic.edu/PuppetryWorkshop Next week for my residency I will be facilitating a puppetry and disability culture workshop at UIC on what it means to be a practitioner of being and becoming. Artists, educators, activists and healthcare practitioners specialize in this, but really, we are all experts in our own being and becoming! Come sit inside of a place of connection. This workshop is centered around deconstructing the illusion of separation to remembering connection. The timing of this feels very specific. My hope is to bring people together from many experiences and practices, forming a nourishing space to invite connection. The medical model/individual model of disability has pushed us, as individuals and practitioners, into silos of isolation. If you have never taken a puppetry workshop please come! If you are a puppeteer please come! If you are interested in disability culture please come! If you are interested in connection please come! Workshop description: During this free, two hour workshop facilitated by 3Arts/Bodies of Work Resident Artist, Rachel Singer, we will collaborate in small groups to bring a tabletop puppet to life and explore our senses as we work with objects. At the end of the workshop we will discuss take-aways, including how this creative process might impact your future practice or work and the impact of models of disability as we re-imagine a path forward in community. No theater or performance experience needed and sharing to the whole group is always optional. Please note the event capacity for this event is 20 participants and spots are offered on a first come, first serve basis. You will receive an email confirming your place in the workshop or letting you know you are on the wait list if over 20 people register Nov. 11th and again on Nov. 13th.
