Join me for a Brilliant Trees creative walk through the streets of the Becontree Estate.
Weâll pause along the way at selected street trees for gentle creative prompts, share tea and cake, and visit the Brilliant Trees exhibition at Valence House Museum.
Youâre invited to respond in any medium â photography, drawing, painting, textiles, sound, poetry, or something else entirely â or simply come along to walk, look, and spend time in the company of others outdoors.
Work made in response to the walk may be included in the exhibition during its final weeks.
This is a free event. Book via the link in bio.
With thanks to The White House Dagenham and Create London.

An Evening with Richard Barbieri
To celebrate the release of âHauntingsâ, Richard Barbieri visited Kingston last night to play a short stripped-back set, paired with a Q&A and vinyl playback of the new album at Kingston College.
âHauntingsâ is Barbieriâs first studio album since 2021âs âUnder A Spellâ, deepening the pensive, dark instrumental aesthetic of its predecessor. A diverse collection of immersive sound worlds, both dark & uplifting in equal measure, âHauntingsâ is influenced by a nostalgia for the past & future, & for things that didnât happen yet still manage to haunt the mind & soul. What is real & what is simulation?
The album finds Barbieri at the height of his powers, his deft keyboard & sonic architecture conjuring a shadowy, creeping Lovecraftian atmosphere. The music wanders through the streets of a gloomy lamp-lit Victorian London & drifts into grain-speckled snapshots of Belle Ăpoque Paris. These journeys into the past are contrasted with nihilistic but euphoric forays into the future, âTravelerâ & âA New Simulationâ bristling with the itchy modern anxiety that often runs through his best work.
Contrasting the sound designs & electronics of Barbieri, the album features performances from renowned musicians Morgan Agren (drums & percussion), Percy Jones (bass guitar) & Luca Calabrese (trumpet).

Now open until 6 June
Brilliant Trees: A Survey of Council-Owned Street Trees Across the Becontree Estate by David Bennett â the first temporary exhibition following the reopening of Valence House Museum.
Valence House Museum
Becontree Avenue, Dagenham RM8 3HT
7 February - 6 June 2026
Brilliant Trees is a multidisciplinary project using photography, video and text to explore the quiet but enduring presence of council-owned street trees on the Becontree Estate.
Through close observation, the work considers these trees as silent witnesses to the social, political and economic forces that have shaped the estate over its centennial history.
Alongside a central display of colour photographic prints, over the course of the exhibition Becontree residents are invited to contribute their own images, artworks and personal stories, creating a growing collective portrait of community, memory and place.
Free admission
