From Planned Parenthood of Northern New England today: "Our hearts are heavy as we witness ICE enter Maine and target family, friends, and neighbors through a large-scale operation that has left many feeling scared and uncertain. The recent surge of ICE operations in Maine and in other states throughout the country is deeply disconnected from our values of freedom, dignity, and safety for all. Targeting people in Maine is targeting our patients, our supporters, our volunteers, and our staff."

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court halted an attempt to restrict access to mifepristone, a drug commonly used in medication abortion and in miscarriage care. This case was not rooted in science or medicine and should never have gotten as far as it did. The bottom line is that despite the confusing headlines, you can still access a medication abortion if you need one.

On Monday morning, the U.S. Supreme Court paused the 5th Circuit’s ruling in Louisiana et al. v. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). While mifepristone access returns to where it was on Friday morning, the whiplash and chaos that patients and providers are navigating has already had real consequences for real peoples’ lives and futures. The threats to abortion care and rights remain — even in states where abortion is legal and protected. Patients should visit to make an appointment.

Mifepristone can be prescribed again nationwide, and here in Maine.” White pills and a gravel are emphasized by yellow lines at the bottom right of the graphic. White PPMEAF logo at the bottom left. Governor Janet Mills is a trailblazing leader for reproductive rights and access to care who has never backed down from a fight. During her eight years as governor, she has accomplished more to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights than any other leader in Maine’s history.
As governor, she signed bills that required Medicaid (MaineCare) coverage for abortion, authorized advanced practice clinicians to provide abortion, and allocated state funding for reproductive health care at a time when Planned Parenthood is facing unprecedented attacks. As a direct result of these laws, patients have been able to obtain the reproductive health care they need and deserve.
Maine is a stronger and safer state as a result of her actions. Despite the constant attacks and the cruelty coming from Washington DC, Janet Mills hasn’t just spoken up, she has acted. She has been bold. She accomplished what was needed to ensure that people could access the reproductive and sexual health care they need, safely, and legally. Thank you, Governor Mills, for your service to Maine and Maine people.
