Thanks to everyone who joined us last week for the launch of the Pelican Prints gallery! 🖼️ The works begin as ideas generated by Pelican members- phrases, statements and provocations- and are printed on site. The project challenges traditional narratives around inclusion in the arts, shifting away from charity-based models towards visibility, agency and shaping culture. At The Pelican Project, members join not as participants, but as drivers of change; Pelican Prints epitomises this principle. If you missed the opening, you can still get yourself a print online at .uk/pelican-prints-shop All proceeds from sales are reinvested directly into supporting the artists and sustaining the programme.

During the workshop Sophie will talk about the best plants to use for this process, and the limitations that come with it, as well as artists who are currently researching within this area of photography. These workshops give you hands on experience in how to build a more sustainable way of making in the world of analogue photography, using tried and tested recipes so you can experiment with a new wave of photographic making. Now open! Altered Images, a duo exhibition by textile artist Jonathan Price @price9382 and Janet Sainsbury @janetsainsbury Reflecting on the crossovers and links between the individual practices of two artists who share a household, the exhibition explores what elements of each practice might be mutualistic and what might be seen as parasitic. Recycled textile hangings incorporate found materials, new fabrics and discarded paint rags, the oil pallette influencing the depth and colours used in the piece; while oil paintings on Hessian echo the way light is both absorbed and reflected, and materials float or sink into the surfaces of the textile works. The exhibition continues until 19th June and is viewable from Sidwell Street.

After a month off for Easter, we're back with a hum-dinger of a theme! Deck of Cats will see us share out a set of vintage cat calendar cards and spend time creating exotic and wild landscapes for them to frolic in... or maybe just stare balefully out of... As always, you can take away what you don’t use in the session if it all gets a bit too much (it always does)! Collage Club is a hands-on, artist-led, craft evening and adult social space. Learn new techniques, styles and approaches in a stimulating, safe and sociable workshop environment, with cups of tea. We provide scissors, accessible cutting tools, glue & mount board. You will want to bring your own craft knife, scalpel and cutting mat if you wish, for precision work. Each workshop is themed, with specific materials provided (Inky Fingers has a zero-to-waste agenda and processes 100s of old books each year – capturing loads of amazing pictures and illustrations) and a rolling stock of high quality images to draw from. You’re welcome to bring additional materials to add into the mix. Tuesday 5th May 6.30 - 9pm £5-£10 Pay What You Can Positive Light Projects, Sidwell St. Check the full programme as it emerges via Linktree in our bio or our website. You can also book in for free via Eventbrite, but we take payment on the night - cash or card. #AnalogueCollage #ScissorsAndGlue #CutAndPaste #CatCollage

Coming soon to Traction Project Space 👀 Altered Images: Jonathan Price and Janet Sainsbury 1st May - 19th June Evening celebration: Friday 1st May, 5-7pm Showing together for the first time, textile artist Jonathan Price and painter Janet Sainsbury use the exhibition to reflect on crossovers and links between the individual practices of two artists who share a household; what might be mutualistic and what might be seen as parasitic. Jonathan’s recycled textile hangings incorporate found materials, new fabrics and most significantly for this exhibition, Janet’s discarded paint rags. The oil paint rags bring deeply saturated and suffused colours, altering the sense of depth and surface, and bringing an embodied sense of haptic intervention and history to the fore. Painting on hessian represents a new strand in Janet’s practice. Using this rough textured material brings challenges; some globs of paint stay on the surface and some are absorbed into the open weave of the fabric. The effect finds echoes in Jonathan’s hangings where light is both absorbed and reflected, and materials float or sink into the surfaces of the work. Traction is an artist-led project space developed by artist/curator Erika Cann. The street-facing window gallery is supported by @exeterphoenix and @positivelightprojects , and is situated within EP Sidwell St. Join us to celebrate the opening of the exhibition on Friday 1st May, 5-7pm at Traction Project Space, 184 Sidwell St, Exeter, EX4 6RD
