✨non bread/pastry content warning ✨
10 years ago, Sam (the guy that started this whole thing) married Amanda (Portside emotional support human and world’s worst social media manager). The idea for a bakery was born when Sam and Amanda were living in London, somewhere between the baguette class they took and the many hours Sam logged at their local cafe in Shoreditch (Slate coffee forever, may she rest in peace).
But the idea for Sam and Amanda? That was born at @berkeleyironworks , where they met working the front desk. And all these years later, it still feels like home 🧗🏼♀️. Thanks for the warm welcome back (at least for the one of us who hasn’t shown up in a while). Without you, there would be no Portside, and there would be a lot less laughter on the North side of the Bay 💕
I hope this email finds you well. I’m writing to introduce you to our Bourbon Peach Danish with Kashiwase Yellow peaches. Let’s double click on that and circle back next week.
Warmly,
Portside
Meet the bakery putting Sausalito sourdough on the map! 🥖 On Thursdays and Saturdays at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, @portsidebakery offers fruit-filled danishes, chewy pretzels stuffed with a variety of savory fillings, seasonal passionfruit and yuzu lychee puffins, and unique sourdough loaves in flavors like Masa or Gruyère French Onion. 🍞
After returning from England to his houseboat in Sausalito, Sam Schwartz started baking bread with the intention of opening a bakery inspired by his time in Europe. 🇬🇧 He staged with local bakers, swept floors, and worked his way up to becoming head baker, all while making sourdough in the Dutch oven of his home. Once he’d gained the knowledge he needed, Sam founded Portside Bakery in 2017.

With a love of high-hydration sourdough and carefully crafted pastries, Sam Schwartz started Portside Bakery on a houseboat in Sausalito. They now sell at farmers markets in Marin and San Francisco, incorporating organic and fresh ingredients from local farms.
Today and this Saturday, visit Portside for sourdough loaves and treats like Ham and Gruyere Stuffed Pretzels, Chocolate Hazelnut Croissants, and Passionfruit Puffins, and give a warm welcome to Annika and Kristine!
