Over the weekend I created an #affinity cheat sheet for creatives who specialize in vector work or are coming over from #Illustrator or #figma . These are just the tools from the default Vector Studio. You can edit and create your own studio based on all the tools while creating custom shortcuts.
Working on the next #newyawker cover and I wanted to just share a part of the process. I mostly concept the idea out using references and sketches then importing them in affinity but once the process starts I’m allowing the project to guide me where it needs to be. Sometimes it’s a fun place sometimes it’s laborious, in the end, new art emerges. Which is ideal 😂
"Were you just using the Wu Tang school method against me?!"
"I've learned so many styles, forgive me!"
While everyone is posting logos for the @logoarchive I wanted to share a collection of illustration styles I've made for various projects over the years. I got logos but I love these more.
Every project has its own style that needs to be explored to find the right one. I have my own style but finding the right one for a client is the best. usually it takes me a place I've never been.
Things you need 2 NODE about @affinity .
Here are 4 of my favorite tools to use when I creating vector illustrations.
Clipping paths - easiest system ever. Just drag a layer into another object in the layer panel and boom clipping mask.
Transform objects separately- I call it solo transform but it allows you to transform multiple selected objects at once while treating them separately.
Symbols - a symbol is an object that becomes part of a system. When you change one symbol you change them all.
Live Filters - imagine a placing a filter on a layer and still being able to make changes, turn it on and off, or drag it onto another layer. That’s live filters.
These are some of my favorite tools but I have a ton more. What’s your favorite affinity tool?
I created this modular system to use for player portraits than just another photo of the players. This one is of @wemby and it took a minute to get the likeness. What I'm learning while building this system around actual people. You need a large component library in order for a system like this to work for recognizable portraits. I created over 70 components and 10 portraits. I'm gonna need a lot more to complete this project.
This Ten Nap Commandments series has been in my head for a while and I'm putting it out in the wild. My goal is to put out all the artwork that's sitting on deck in Cubichino (my mental caffeinated cubicle where I keep all my ideas) out into the real world.
What would a card deck based on the Four Pillars of Hip-Hop look like? This was the challenge that was presented in my latest commission from @affinity . What were the inspirations and the design choices. Alternative layouts, poses and systems that were considered. I go into detail in my latest art journal entry on my site.
Guess who’s bizzack!?!
Canva Create is back on the scene and I’ll be there with @affinity talking about all the new stuff they have in store along with my patent pending Design Dad energy filled with puns and tons of support.
If you’re in LA on April 16, stop by the Affinity booth so we can chop it up in person. See y’all on the West Coast.

Pope asks us to identify the persons in his portraits.
But he has given us little information to do so accurately, so we end up, relying on our assumptions.

Part Deux of this series.
Let’s add some color. Do I know exactly what colors I’m gonna use. Nah, I’m coloring off of vibes.
Sometimes, the best plan is to have at least 12% of a plan when you’re working on art. Then you can find it on your way.
