this past week, our nation celebrated Columbus Day and his “voyage of discovery”
instead, I turn my attention to the ancient voyages of our ancestors to the voyages that began long before maps and borders were drawn and when stars and constellations were the compass
we are our ancestors continuation their blood, still beating in our veins
our navels still connected to theirs
though we may now live in far distant lands, surrounded by different cultures, and speak different languages, their spirit moves within us… adapting, remembering, and persevering.
this is for our shared ‘ohana and for the unending voyage that connects us and leads us forward together
