Convergence can be intriguing.
Earlier this week @alieninflux posted about an event he did ages ago that introduced Kruder & Dorfmeister as DJs to Toronto. Then, yesterday, I was checking to see if an old Thievery Corporation EP was on Beatport (it wasn’t) and I noticed that Kruder & Dorfmeister are releasing a 30th anniversary remaster of their legendary DJ Kicks mix album.
It was this album that first kicked off interest in them and was listened to by many. I bought the vinyl so I could play some of the tracks out, although not all of them, if I recall there were a couple of duds in it.
Anyway it’s a brilliant mix and it’s because of this mix that Justin promoted them here, I think. The mix encompasses ambient dub, downtempo and drum & bass, and it was because of this that I was very surprised that they played generic house music at Roxy Blu. I was disappointed, personally.
So, my recommendation is to listen to this mix and think twice about going out to a club night where they are DJing. I’ll just be listening to this.

Often when you want to find a digital version of a track the only way to do so is to buy a used CD from the Discogs marketplace. I’ve done so many times and my latest is a track by Akasha called Brown Sugar. It was released on the Wall of Sound label, a label I didn’t often buy from as they specialised in big beat or funky breaks, I style I didn’t collect. It comes with a great drum and bass remix by PFM.
I like it a lot.

The newest from Massive Attack is a collaboration with Tom Waits called Boots on the Ground. It’s a great and timely track, although I feel it sounds more like a Tom Waits song than Massive Attack.
