As we approach 2 weeks out from our event (🤯), we can’t help but reflect on why we do what we do - why we draw this connection between house and liberation. And we’re often brought back to the words of our elders - from Black Panther veterans and family members to dance community culture bearers. House IS liberation, it is not a metaphor. And we’ve made a lil zine to commemorate their words! You can get yours at Sistas Place, Nicholas Brooklyn, or on the day of, Sunday May 17 @nicholasbk for FREE.99! Keep a lookout for your copy 🗒️
Greetings!
In honor of #InternationalDanceDay, we are thankful the spaces that give us the opportunity to express freely.
Last month on International Women’s Day, @lovefromthesunarchive held their monthly gathering, celebrating Black music.
Many thanks to @ash_lauryn_ , (who brought this track by @karizma_kaytronik_official ) @ctrlzora , and the founder of this event, @jadalareign for keeping us dancing.
Without dance, Afro Mosaic Soul would not exist.

Upon judging for @battle.101.newyork on Oct. 25, @polite.brian shares his perspective on the origins of the dance battle/contest format, its current meaning in the street culture space, and what he expects to see from participants in a dance battle.
I may share a longer version somewhere and in some time, but here are some food for thought from one of the great minds in the #nyc scene to listen to and think about.

Greetings!
This past Juneteenth, we were invited by @jadalareign (Thank You for the footage and video) for their event, @lovefromthesunarchive , to facilitate a House Dance workshop. As a collective, it is essential to preserve music, movement, and knowledge for the next generation to carry forward.
Thank You, @nowadaysnyc for letting us use this amazing space!
As a community, it is also our responsibility to showcase the underground club community from every facet. We give Thanks to those who came before us via The Loft, Paradise Garage, The Shelter, and everything else in between.
Without them, we would not be Afro Mosaic Soul.
It is an honor and blessing to celebrate 20 years this October.
We will be adding more details in the coming weeks.
Thank You to those who truly keep our culture alive.
Brownie points if you know the song in the third slide and its significance.

We’re about 3 weeks away from the next House is Liberation, and we’re still ruminating on the words of one of our mentors @polite.brian from the last iteration.
As Brian says in the video, the dance floor is not just a means of escape. It has also long been a tool, specifically by Black and queer people, for imagining a new future - one rooted in joy, care, and access for everyone. To feel joy is to feel a collective sense of power to change our future for the better - and that’s what we’re here to do. We can’t wait to gather with you all Saturday, August 2, 3-10PM at @therepmusiccafe , to build this new world together while providing for our siblings and elders in Gaza and in prison ✊🏽🇵🇸🐈⬛
As a reminder, all ticket sales, food sales, and vendor sales go directly to Palestine and political prisoner causes.
Make sure you RSVP through the link in our bio.
