NRL PNG was invited to attend a Team-Up workshop yesterday. We had representatives from PNG Olympic Committee, Basketball Federation, PNG Hockey, WaSH project, Badmington, PNG Deaf Rugby, Kokoda Track Foundation, PNG Soccer Association and PNG Netball Federation in attendance. We also had teams from Australia, Fiji and the pacific taking part in the workshop via Zoom.
Team Up is an Australian Government program supporting partnerships across the Pacific that use sport to bring people together, champion inclusion and create opportunity.
The workshop looked at how the recent Covid-19 pandemic was impacting on the each of the programs, their operations, in our own community in the pacific and how we as sport and community based organisations could adjust and find innovative ways to deliver our programs. The discussions were informative as ideas were exchanged and proved to be of benefit to all that attended.
After lunch, the team headed straight into the second half of the workshop which involved training on the use of mobile story-telling application, 'Folktale'. After going through the application with workshop facilitator Ms. Joanna Lester, participants were tasked to create their own videos using 'Folktale'.
The workshop ended on a high note with participants sharing their videos via Zoom with everyone in attendance for feedback and comments.
A big thank you to the workshop organizers, special mention to Andrew Lepani who facilitated training on the ground in PNG.

The crowds are getting bigger each weekend as interest builds up for mini and modified rugby league.
Round 4 witnessed a visible increase in student numbers, parents and teachers alike. The remaining rounds for this term promise to be well attended.
The mini and modified (or mini mod) game concept aims to impart basic rugby league skills to students and uses the popular following of the game to promote respectful behaviour, healthy active lifestyle and the importance of staying in school.
Mini mod is part of PNGRFL's development pathway in country and targets boys and girls between the ages of 6 - 12 years.
