Meet Paula Malinowska @pm.raspberry — a photographer and 3D artist based in Bratislava, whose practice connects photography, photogrammetry, ecology, mythology, and digital technologies. Her work transforms plant ecosystems into 3D spaces, exploring how technology can reveal new forms of sensitivity toward the planet. Through generative processes, chance, and digital errors, Malinowska creates visual worlds where the human and non-human merge. Drawing from biology, climatology, posthumanist theory, and ancient myths, she reimagines stories of transformation through today’s urgent contexts: climate catastrophe, gender violence, rape culture, and bodily autonomy. Her practice asks how art can make the invisible visible — and how new mythologies might help us rethink our relationship with the planet, non-human beings, and ourselves. 🪼 Paula Malinowska: Ballad of the Waves That Rotated the Earth The cellular memory hypothesis states that memories are stored not only in the brain, but in every single cell of the body. Could memories be stored outside of the boundary of the body? What does the body of a jellyfish, whose cells have the ability to reverse its life cycle, remember? Malinowska’s animated film is a virtual re-construction of a memory from a dead jellyfish. Inspired by the ability of cellular transdifferentiation of a jellyfish (Turritopsis dohrnii), the film addresses the notions of (im)mortality and speculatively explores the existence of planetary memory. The ability of bodies to morph into each other, the extensive interconnectedness of tissues and cells and the concept of cellular memory challenge those linear and limited approaches concerned with different geographical times, memory and other ways in which information is preserved over time from a human perspective.

🫧Paula Malinowska
Výstava, 15. 4., GAFU (City Campus OU)
Fotografka a 3D umělkyně žijící a působící v Bratislavě. Její krátké filmy často poeticky rozebírají klimatologický a biologický rámec, mnohdy z vědeckého hlediska, doplněné jemnou estetikou detailu či poetickým textem, který díla doprovází. V roce 2024 se stala laureátkou ceny Oskara Čepana.

Paula is a photographer and 3D artist living and working in Bratislava. She works primarily with the medium of photography, creating 3D photometric scans that she later brings to life in the form of short films. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Photography and a master’s degree from the Department of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, where she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the Department of Digital Arts. Her short films often poetically explore climatological and biological frameworks, frequently from a scientific perspective, complemented by a delicate aesthetic of details and poetic text that accompanies the works. In 2024, she was awarded the Oskar Čepan Award.

FAMU Guest Talks: Paula Malinowska Wednesday, March 11 5:00 PM Room U1, Smetanovo nábř. 2, Praha 1 Paula Malinowska is a digital media artist and photographer. She graduated from the Department of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava where she is currently a doctoral student at the Department of Digital Arts. Her artistic practice includes CGI audiovisual works, 3D printing techniques and photography that she further develops into multimedia installations. Her research is based on studies in the fields of biology, climatology and the development of digital technologies, which she connects with elements of speculative fiction and fantasy. She often focuses on the life cycles of beings (organisms) that provide inspiration for the creation of stories transcending the hierarchies established by human society and offering alternative perspectives on the possibilities of empathetic relationships and communication. Her work has been presented at many exhibitions, including More Than Human (Light Art Museum, Budapest, HU, 2025), Sentience (Voloshyn Gallery, Miami, Florida, US, 2024), Whoever settles in a perfect home will have to move (GLASSBOX, Paris, FR, 2023), and others. She has completed residencies at MuseumsQuartier in Vienna (2023), Residency Unlimited in New York (2024), and Plato Gallery in Ostrava (2025). 3D Scanning Workshop with Paula Malinowska March 12, 2026 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. FAMU, Location TBA Reservations: [email protected] The workshop is an introduction to 3D scanning using photogrammetry and explores the transformation of a physical object into a digital model. Participants will photograph a selected object and use the software Metashape to generate its 3D digital representation from the images. We will then explore possibilities for further work with the scan in the 3D program Blender and discuss its potential use in artistic practice. Please bring your own laptop, and if possible, a camera.
