Arizona-based Jordan Hill (@jordanhillart ) does “unconventional pin-up and pop-art that celebrates pop culture. It’s a mash-up of mid-century animation, underground comics, poster art, and pop culture satire. Art that simply looks fun at first before you realize it’s full of hidden messages and parody.” Check out our exclusive interview in issue #6 of Plunder Shock! Photo courtesy of the artist

Toni Caballero (@tonicaballeroart ) is a Spain-based manga artist (Backhome, Midnight Serenade, etc.) we’re thrilled to have gotten an exclusive interview with for Plunder Shock #6. Here’s a snippet: What advice would you give to an artist who wants to draw manga? Pay attention to what you actually like inside of manga itself: the style of X author, the storytelling of X author, the linework of X author. Do that conscious study of what it is and why you like it, and then put it into practice with your own tools and your own style. And focus on it without bouncing around more than you need to. I once heard: if you want good spaghetti, you don’t go to a burger place. In art, and in a world as saturated as this, maybe being really good at just one thing is more productive than picking at a bit of everything. And if what you do is honest to who you are as an artist, you’ll feel rewarded with every small step you take. Photo courtesy of the artist

Andrew Tarusov (@askandy ) is a Paris-based, Russian pin-up artist whose stunning, sensual illustrations will make you blush. Here’s a snippet from our exclusive interview: How did you get your start as an artist? I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. I started very early, probably around the age of three. My parents sent me to an art school, then college, and eventually I earned a bachelor’s degree at a university of film, where I studied animation and visual storytelling. During that time I worked on my own projects, including comics, short films, and animation. My first big success came from publishing pin-up calendars every year, starting in 2012. After that, I moved to Los Angeles and began creating comics for my Patreon. Since then, I’ve been doing this full-time every day and I don’t plan to stop. Waxbones (@waxbonessupply ) is a digital artist who juxtaposes the whimsical with the macabre (we stole that from his bio). Hailing from the UK and currently stationed in South Africa, our Commonwealth brother from another mother was game for an interview right from the get-go. Here’s a snippet from said interview: What are some of the highs and lows you’ve experienced as an artist? I think the lowest points are times we all go through, when you get a creative block and imposter syndrome creeps in to tell you you’re not good enough to be doing this. Then there’s the financial uncertainty that comes with working for yourself. But all of that is worth it when you experience the euphoria of an idea that comes together just right. I think my highest high specifically in my career was either seeing my art on display in Times Square, or seeing people wearing and even tattooing my designs on them! Lukasz Piwinski (@vaultcrawler ) is a Polish artist whose fantasy renderings will lay siege to your heart! Here’s a snippet from our interview: Proudest accomplishment as an artist? I guess it’s that I manage to follow my own path and make a living from what I love. I’m incredibly lucky; so many people like what I do, and there are even crazy individuals who pay me to draw! I’ve met so many wonderful, creative people with minds full of ideas, which is priceless to me. As for a more specific achievement, I was very proud that my illustrations were featured in the TTRPG [Tabletop Role-Playing Game] zine Knock!, published by Merry Mushmen. They do great things, and I’m glad I could be a part of it. And let’s face it, the fact that there are people interested in what I have to say is also an achievement for me. Thanks!
