A peek into the inspiring renovation of a beloved childhood home in Tiburon.
In this rather delicate renovation project, @lauren_nelson_design was tasked with creating a sensitive update to a beloved childhood home. Artfully melding natural stone, warm timber and sculptural forms, this serene Californian home is a tribute to the beauty of one family’s bond.
Located in California’s Tiburon, a town north of San Francisco, Ford Danielson grew up in the home with her mother, Jean Ann Ford. Beauty fanatics might recognise Jean as the San Franciscan cofounder of Benefit Cosmetics, now an LVMH-owned global giant that’s become synonymous with brow products.
It is understandable then, that this project carried more weight than usual. “This house has a very special meaning to Ann,” confirms interior designer Lauren Nelson, who was brought on to spearhead the project alongside architecture firm @chambersandchambers and @plrbuilders . “Her mum poured a lot of time and love into the property. After her mother passed in 2019, Ann decided to do a full gut renovation to breathe new life into the home and make it her own for her and her boys to live in, while keeping all her mother’s favourite elements.”
Celebrating the end of the renovation with a Hugo spritz—“inspired from a recent trip to Italy” while showing her clients their new, improved home—Nelson is content the project was an absolute success. “The home turned out exactly the way it was intended—a comfortable, thoughtful home for a mum and her two boys that allows them to be exactly who they are—playful, engaged and surrounded by memories of loved ones past and present.”
