Coming to Bandcamp this weekend. This one means so much to me. Recorded throughout the month of March. All pieces are one take, as they happened. No edits. Just spontaneous compositions first thing in the morning capturing so many moods, thoughts and emotions. Big thanks to James Plotkin @plotkinworks who did an incredible mastering job and of course to Rob Bursmith who always is so gracious with his time and artistic talents. 𝐇𝐎𝐓 𝐆𝐀𝐑𝐁𝐀𝐆𝐄 - 𝐒𝐏𝐔𝐍 🪲 𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐍𝐎𝐖 A day and night in the life of a bug (Sook-Yin Lee). In the dead of winter, a hibernating bug ventures down a heating vent, only to find itself stuck outside on the frozen streets of Toronto. Crawling across icy cement and flying atop the brutalist skyline, it explores the strange city. After a reflective moment in the park, it flies into the night, buzzing through the dark medieval corridors of the Old City. As the snow comes crashing down, it makes a startling encounter. The video for ‘SPUN’ was made by Dylan Gamble and stars Sook-Yin Lee as ‘the Bug’. Sook-Yin also made the drawings that appear in the video. Dylan directed, shot, and rendered the video in his dark, psychedelic style. The buzzing harmonics of the guitar mirror the sketchy inner dialogue of the bug, while the lyrics remind it of the short time it has left. Video by @dylangamblez Bug and drawings by @sookyinleee Song produced + mixed by @graham_c_walsh at @palace.sound Mastered by @plotkinworks xx

🪰𝐇𝐨𝐭 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐠𝐞 - 𝐒𝐏𝐔𝐍🪰 𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐰 via 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 Toronto’s @hotgarbg offer pentagonal noise rock prototype 𝑺𝑷𝑼𝑵. Akin to their latest offering, the “dissonant, uneasy scorcher” (The Joy of Violent Movement) Wewu, the standalone single sees the outfit provide cataclysmic decibels alongside producer @graham_c_walsh (Holy F*ck), this time using a testy five-beat meter while dismantling eardrums by way of fuzzed-out bass, Sonic Youth-esque guitar fury, and otherworldly keys. The track—about taking advantage of the fourth dimension in the face of existence’s turbulent flow—comes accompanied by a music video directed by the band’s @dylangamblez and featuring @sookyinleee as “The Bug”. Dumb Waiter “Change” Stream the new title track “Change” Artwork by @taylor.a.white PR @speakeasypr Richmond noise-rock outliers Dumb Waiter return with Change (July 31, @osseincollective ), a 13-track shift for the underground favorites, introducing vocals for the first time while maintaining the band’s experimental sensibilities. A preview arrives today with the release of the album’s title track, and an accompanying video directed by the band’s own Nicholas Crider. “Over the past few years I’ve gone through a lot of major life events. With each one, I’ve found myself lying awake thinking ‘I’m afraid of change. Please let’s not change. Please don’t change on me.’ No matter how desperate you are to stay put, life will push you forward. The lyric ‘I don’t like change’ feels like one of the most universal, simple, and honest things I could say. Despite that fear, I’m learning to lean into who I am, and I’m less afraid of stepping out of the proverbial uniforms that society, scenes, friends and family may impose. It feels like a perfect statement for the band’s newly formed identity.” Previously described by Decibel as “experimental freakies,” and by MetalSucks as a band “that isn’t pushing the envelope so much as shoving it right over the side of a goddamn cliff,” Change sees Dumb Waiter trading abstraction for urgency, still unpredictable but more direct in its message. “What more is there to say without saying anything?” saxophonist/vocalist Tristan Brennis explains of the band’s decision to include vocals on the new album.. “We quickly realized that we had a whole lot to say about the current state of the world and this hyper-acceleration of society that I think we’re all feeling day in day out.” Recorded with producer and mixer Kevin Bernstein at Baltimore’s @developing_nations studio and mastered by @plotkinworks Change retains the band’s density while sharpening its delivery. As drummer/vocalist Nathaniel Roseberry notes: “We put a lot of effort into creating multifaceted songs that didn’t present as complex. Even if there is ridiculous syncopation happening in the rhythm section, the other guys are smoothing it over to still keep that pop feel.”

This week on Riff Worship, we explore the history and impact of the seminal 2002 album Oceanic by post-metal pioneers @isisthebandofficial ! The tragic narrative behind Aaron Turner’s lyricism and the use of water as a powerful spiritual and archetypal symbol. The recording sessions at the legendary Fort Apache studios with producer Matt Bayles (Minus the Bear, Mastodon, Botch) featuring guest performances by Maria Christopher and Ayal Naor of 27. The creation of the experimental Oceanic: Remixes & Reinterpretations with contributions from Mike Patton, Justin Broadrick, and more! HROB DEBUT ALBUM OUT NOW / BRÁNA CHLADU, the debut album by Slovakian Death-Doom abhorrence @hrob.death , is out today and streaming everywhere. Seven tracks of glacial desolation, a monolithic plunge into the frozen void. Vinyl and cassette are in stock, and preorders will start shipping this week. We have sold more than half of the colored copies, so order yours now before it’s too late! T-Shirts will ship around mid/end of May. Link in bio. “Following their 2023 demo, HROB are ready to unleash their most awaited debut full-length, Brána Chladu. The band’s choice to growl in their native tongue loses nothing in the translation: the album is a DEATH-DOOM abomination that evokes a profound sense of dread and desolation, shifting between slime-slow passages, soaked in brooding heaviness and shake-you-from-a-trance pummeling blasts. Where HROB strive to elevate above the usual Death-Doom tropes are their well-timed injection of hauntingly melodic leads and caveman-crude tremolo riffing, respectively. In fact, where those leads sometimes are delivered in clean(er) tones, is when “Brána Chladu” truly sends shivers down the spine. Between them, the listener is transported into a dank, moist crypt forlorn in time - and reeking of rot, both physical and supernatural - augmented by sewer-level vocals that only add up to the horror.” Recorded by Michal Matúš Uharček and Kiko Kavický Mixing by Michal Matúš Uharček Mastered by James Plotkin @plotkinworks Artwork by Jan Vlášek Logo & Lettering by @lord_serus Photo by @tomaslicthle Layout by @terror_matt CD edition is available now through @memento.mori.label - Buy digital directly from the HROB Bandcamp page. #hrob #hrobdeath #nightterrorsrecords #mementomorilabel #deathdoom

Trace Monument “Hollow Land”. Out today in local record stores and on Bandcamp. Thanks to everyone who preordered a cassette. To the friends who have asked: Bandcamp and a limited physical release both respect the nature of this long-form album – they encourage what streaming overlooks. Thanks for treading upon the Hollow Land.
