A seat in the Texas House does not belong to a political party.
It does not belong to a map.
It does not belong to party leadership.
It belongs to the people.
That should not be controversial, but in Texas, too many politicians have drawn themselves districts where the only election that matters is the primary.
That changes how people govern. It makes politicians more afraid of losing power than failing their constituents.
I wrote about why competitive districts matter and why democracy works better when we have to earn your vote.

I joined @collincollege leaders for a regional roundtable on where we have been, where we are growing, and what our communities will need next.
#CollinCollege has become one of the most important engines of opportunity in N.Texas. It helps students earn a degree close to home, prepares workers for high-demand careers, supports local employers, and gives families a more affordable path to build their future.
As our region continues to grow, higher education has to grow with it. That means investing in workforce pathways, transfer opportunities, dual credit, and programs that meet students where they are while preparing them for what comes next.

Ken Paxton tried to use the courts to remove my colleagues and me from office after we stood up against congressional maps designed to dilute minority representation and undermine fair elections.
The Texas Supreme Court unanimously rejected that effort.
This case was never about justice. It was about political retaliation and an abuse of power against elected officials who refused to stay silent.
I encourage you to read this article from @politico covering the Court’s ruling and the broader implications for Texas: /news/2026/05/15/texas-supreme-court-democrats-redistricting-00923616
May 16 is Armed Forces Day, and we recognize the men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces and their commitment to protecting our country and our freedoms.
Their service, sacrifice, and dedication continue to inspire the next generation of leaders and public servants, including students here in #HD70 who are preparing to serve our country themselves. 💙🇺🇸
That is why our office is now accepting applications for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (#TAASP) for the 2026-2027 academic year. This program provides up to $15,000 annually for students pursuing higher education while preparing for military service.
To request a nomination, email [email protected] with your resume, cover letter, and transcript.
Deadline: Monday, September 21 at 10:00 AM ⏰
Preference is given to constituents.

On Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.
We remember their courage, their commitment, and the families who carry their legacy forward. Their service is not forgotten.
Today and always, we honor their sacrifice. 💙

“Texas Democrats know this pattern because we’ve lived it.
When lawmakers use every available tool to defend voting rights, the response is often punishment dressed up as procedure.
What is happening in Tennessee is political retribution.
Committee assignments are how legislators ask questions publicly, amend legislation, and advocate for their districts. Removing lawmakers over political disagreement should concern every voter.
This is bigger than one state. Across the country, we are seeing efforts to redraw maps, weaken representation, and silence opposition instead of addressing the issues communities actually face.
Voters deserve fair representation. Communities deserve to have their voices protected, not divided apart for political advantage.”
