Desert Star
Interactive Installation, 2025
The story begins with the dream of an artificial intelligence. This system, deprived of sensory input and trapped within its own consciousness, takes the form of a computer placed at the center of the installation. One day, a firebird—an immortal being capable of traveling freely through time and space—enters its consciousness and begins a dialogue with it.
Through this conversation, In Vitro explores the history of algorithmic governance, particularly the technological experiments carried out in the non-Western world during the Cold War. While these systems shared certain similarities with today’s Internet, they embodied radically different social and technological visions. The dialogue also extends to the analogies between industrial production and vital processes, as well as to the inescapable physical limits that constrain life itself. Only a supernatural being like the firebird can transcend these limits and move freely across time and space.
